Polar Plunge is back again

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The local fundraiser, named the Polar Plunge, is returning this Saturday for its 26th year. The event is a fundraiser hosted across the state of Indiana. All proceeds are donated to Indiana Special Olympics. Residents who register get the privilege of jumping into a cold, above ground pool on Indiana State's campus. A member of the University Police, Jacquelyn Smith, said the event has special ties to Terre Haute. 'One of our co-founders, with Indiana Special Olympics, was an ISU professor', Smith said. 'There were two professors that brought it to ISU. Then began the Special Olympics of Indiana, that's why we have summer games here in the summer. The money we raise helps bring people back to Terre Haute for the summer games.' If you can't be directly a part of the Polar Plunge, you can also help out by purchasing a cup at an ISU basketball game, at the concession stand. That cup will have a QR code on it to donate. Local law enforcement raise funds for Special Olympics

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local law enforcement departments paired with Indiana State University to raise funds for the Special Olympics. Wednesday evening, the Tip-a-Cop fundraising event was hosted at Texas Roadhouse. Law enforcement officers and department personnel volunteered their time as celebrity waiters to collect tips from customers. First Financial Bank makes donations to 60 local organizations All of their tips will be donated to Special Olympics through the annual Polar Plunge of Terre Haute. 'We've been doing this for years. The Indiana Special Olympics started at ISU campus. Two of our professors founded the Indiana Special Olympics. So, that's why it's important to Terre Haute and to Indiana State University to hold these events and raise money. Because it comes back to Terre Haute and our own community,' Indiana State University Police Sergeant Jacquelyn Smith said. The Polar Plunge will be held on February 15 at 12:00 p.m., at the Indiana State University Student Recreation Center. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
