Israel destroys only dialysis centre in North Gaza
Listen to article Israeli forces have destroyed the only kidney dialysis centre in northern Gaza, according to the Palestinian health ministry. The Noura al-Kaabi Kidney Dialysis Centre, located in Beit Lahiya and part of the Indonesian Hospital, was reportedly serving over 160 patients suffering from kidney failure. Health officials say this is the second time in recent weeks the facility has been attacked. The centre had only recently resumed operations following earlier damage. Footage published by Muneer al-Bursh, director general at the Gaza Health Ministry, showed Israeli bulldozers at the site. — Alboursh د.منيرالبرش (@Dr_Muneer1) June 1, 2025 "The destruction of the centre has left hundreds without access to life-saving treatment," al-Bursh said. The Health Ministry reports that 41 percent of kidney failure patients in Gaza have died during the war due to the destruction of dialysis units and restricted access to treatment. Israeli authorities have not commented on the incident. READ: Israeli strikes kill at least 32, wound 136 in Gaza According to Al Jazeera, at least 36 hospitals across the Gaza Strip have been bombed, raided, or besieged by Israeli forces—actions that human rights groups warn may constitute war crimes under the 1949 Geneva Convention. Among the most severe incidents was the bombing of Al-Ahli Hospital in October, where hundreds of displaced civilians were killed while sheltering in the car park. Hospital staff had reportedly received prior warnings from Israeli authorities. In November, Israeli air strikes on Al-Awda Hospital killed three doctors, including two from Doctors Without Borders (MSF). The hospital was later raided, and senior physician Dr Adnan Al Bursh was arrested. He later died in Israeli custody, according to medical officials. The Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Gaza's largest hospital, was stormed twice—first in November and again in March—leaving at least 47 dead and the facility inoperable. After the second raid, UN teams discovered three mass graves nearby, with more than 80 bodies recovered. Nasser Medical Complex was besieged for over a week in February, with at least eight patients dying due to lack of care, and dozens killed as they approached the facility. Israeli forces later bombed the hospital's emergency department and a nearby media tent, causing further casualties. Kamal Adwan Hospital was also stormed in December. At least 20 Palestinians were killed, and more than 240 people—including hospital director Dr Hussam Abu Safia—were arrested. Israeli officials have defended the operations, claiming that Hamas fighters use hospitals for military purposes. These claims have been contested by international observers and humanitarian groups. Moreover, Israeli military has demolished more than 240 residential units in the Gaza Strip in recent days, intensifying a systematic campaign to displace civilians and destroy communities, the Gaza government's media office reported on Sunday. Gaza Media Office Director General Ismail al-Thawabta told Anadolu that the intensified targeting of residential buildings reflects Israel's "scorched-earth policy aimed at emptying cities, destroying livelihoods, and creating widespread fear and societal shock." 'This criminal behavior shows a premeditated intent to expand genocide and enforce forced displacement of unarmed civilians,' he said. The destroyed units housed entire families, including children, women, and the elderly, with no military targets present, contrary to Israeli claims, al-Thawabta asserted. He urged the international community to act immediately to halt 'this ongoing bloody madness in Gaza.' Speaking to Fox News, Huckabee said France's backing of a Palestinian state was 'incredibly inappropriate' while Israel was 'in the midst of a war'. 'If France is really so determined to see a Palestinian state,' he said, 'I've got a suggestion for them — carve out a piece of the French Riviera and create a Palestinian state.' Israel's war on Gaza The total death toll from Israel's war on Gaza has risen to 54,418 killed and 124,190 injured since October 7, 2023, the ministry said, Al Jazeera reported. Israel has killed 4,149 Palestinians and injured 12,149 since breaking two-month-old ceasefire on March 18 this year. Israel's atrocities have displaced around 90% of Gaza's estimated 2 million residents, created a severe hunger crisis, and caused widespread destruction across the territory. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.

Gaza health system at breaking point: WHO
Gaza City, Palestine – Gaza's healthcare system is on the verge of collapse amid intensified Israeli military operations, widespread displacement and critical shortages of basic supplies, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Friday. Only 19 of the territory's 36 hospitals are still partially functioning, WHO said, and many are struggling to provide even emergency services. 'At least 94% of all hospitals in the Gaza Strip are damaged or destroyed,' the UN health agency said in a statement. Four major facilities – Kamal Adwan, Indonesian Hospital, Hamad Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics, and European Gaza Hospital – have suspended services in recent days due to attacks or their location within evacuation zones. WHO recorded 28 attacks on health facilities in Gaza in the past week alone, bringing the total to 697 since fighting began in October 2023. 'The increased hostilities and new evacuation orders in northern and southern Gaza threaten to push even more health facilities out of service,' the agency warned. Facilities at risk include one hospital, 11 primary care centres and 13 medical points inside newly declared evacuation zones. Five other hospitals, a field hospital and dozens of other facilities lie within 1km of these areas. In North Gaza, health services have been largely wiped out. Al Awda Hospital remains only minimally operational, serving as a trauma stabilisation point. It has come under repeated attacks, with WHO reporting that its third and fourth floors were hit again on Friday, injuring health workers and destroying medical supplies. 'Patient triage tents, including one provided by WHO, caught fire, which also burned all medical supplies in the warehouse and destroyed vehicles in the basement,' the agency said. The Indonesian Hospital is out of service due to an ongoing military presence since May 18. Kamal Adwan Hospital – the only facility treating children with severe acute malnutrition in the north – ceased operations on May 20 after intense shelling in the area. In southern Gaza, Nasser Medical Complex, Al Amal and Al Aqsa hospitals are overwhelmed following a surge of wounded and mass displacement to Deir al Balah and Khan Younis. The European Gaza Hospital has remained shut since a strike on May 13, cutting off critical services such as neurosurgery, cardiac care and cancer treatment. Across Gaza, only 2,000 hospital beds remain for more than 2mn people. At least 40 beds are located in hospitals now inside evacuation zones and could be lost immediately. A further 850 are at risk if conditions worsen at nearby facilities, WHO said.

Gaza war: 200+ casualties in 24 hrs as Israel deploys human shields
Shafaq News/More than 200 Palestinians were killed or injured over the past 24 hours, the Gaza Health Ministry said on Saturday, as Israel escalated its military campaign across the besieged strip while reportedly using civilians as human shields in violation of international law. In a statement, the ministry confirmed that at least 60 people were killed and 185 injured since Friday morning. The toll excludes casualties from northern Gaza, where access to hospitals remains severely restricted due to continued Israeli siege operations. Since dawn today alone, 16 Palestinians have been killed in airstrikes targeting homes and shelters, bringing the total death toll to 53,822 since October 7. According to Arab media outlets, Israeli forces intensified air and drone attacks in multiple areas, including Khan Younis, Gaza City's al-Tuffah neighborhood, and the al-Saftawi district. In one incident, nine children from a single family were reportedly burned alive in their home in Qizan al-Najjar following an airstrike, with their mother, Dr. Alaa al-Najjar, identifying their bodies at Nasser Medical Complex. The assault comes on day 68 of renewed hostilities, with Israeli tanks reportedly besieging the Indonesian Hospital in Bait Lahia, firing on the facility and ambulances transporting patients. Medical teams said access has become nearly impossible, compounding an already 'catastrophic health crisis.' In a new report by the Associated Press, several Palestinians and Israeli soldiers described the widespread use of Palestinian civilians as human shields—dubbed 'the mosquito protocol' within military ranks. Former soldiers admitted to carrying out such orders, claiming commanders approved or even issued them directly. Rights groups have condemned the tactic as a gross violation of international law. 'These are not isolated accounts; they point to a systemic failure and a horrifying moral collapse,' said Nadav Weiman, executive director of Breaking the Silence — a whistleblower group of former Israeli soldiers that has collected testimonies about the practice from within the military. Meanwhile, Gaza's humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate. Only 92 aid trucks entered the strip over the past three days, compared to an average of 500 before the war. 'Clean water is scarce, and the territory faces acute shortages of medicine, baby formula, and flour,' the director of medical relief in Gaza told Al-Jazeera, warning that without urgent aid deliveries, countless patients could die in the coming days. The United Nations has echoed those concerns. Secretary-General António Guterres called the aid flow 'a teaspoon when a flood is needed,' urging Israel to immediately open humanitarian corridors. 'Without rapid, reliable, and sustained access,' he said, 'more people will die.'
