Driver flees troopers as brother tries to interfere in second car, WA cops say
A driver led troopers on a high-speed chase while his brother tried to interfere from a different car, authorities said. The trooper tried to stop the first vehicle for improperly merging at about 8:20 p.m. May 7 on Interstate 90 near Preston, the Washington State Patrol said in a news release. The 21-year-old Honda driver refused to pull over, so the trooper performed a PIT maneuver going under 40 mph, troopers said. However, the tactic didn't stop the driver and he sped off, troopers said. While troopers tried to pull over the driver on the freeway, his 18-year-old brother appeared in a silver Infinity G37, authorities said. A video shows the younger brother trying to get between the trooper and his brother. At one point, the trooper says he was going about 100 mph while chasing after the older brother. The trooper says the 21-year-old brother has a flat tire as pieces of it are seen flying onto the roadway, the video shows. Then the older brother takes an exit, briefly losing control of his car, and the vehicle swings around so he's facing the wrong side of the road, the video shows. His younger brother is seen again driving between the trooper and his brother. The older brother strikes the patrol car and drives the wrong way onto Interstate 90, until he loses control of his vehicle and crashes into a ditch, a second video shows. Troopers arrested the 21-year-old man on suspicion of felony eluding, two charges of reckless endangerment, obstruction and DUI. A female passenger was found in the front seat of the vehicle holding a child on her lap, authorities said. No one was injured in their vehicle, troopers said. The 18-year-old brother fled the scene and was later spotted driving on Interstate 90 in Bellevue, authorities said. Troopers chased after him into Seattle as a helicopter tracked his vehicle from above, officers said. He was stopped and arrested on suspicion of felony eluding, reckless driving and obstruction. ALEA launches investigation into officer-involved shooting
BULLOCK COUNTY, Ala. (WRBL) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that took place on Tuesday, May 6. ALEA says at approximately 12:01 p.m. on May 6, an ALEA trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2013 Infinity G37 on Alabama Highway 51 in Bullock County. The driver of the Infinity, later identified as Jemmie Earl Hicks Jr., 33, refused to stop and a chase ensued. Hicks eventually came to a stop on Bullock County 106 near Flower Garden Road where he then exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. Police say the foot pursuit led into a deadly force encounter between Hicks and the ALEA Trooper. Over the course of the incident, Hicks was injured by gunfire and the trooper rendered first aid. However, Hicks was pronounced dead at the scene. ALEA says additional details are not available at this time, while the investigation is ongoing. The findings will be turned over to the Bullock County District Attorney's office. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
