Tale of a long, sombre marriage could do with some humour
This show will not cheer you up. It is a sad piece about a couple aged around 70, staring death in the face. Maggie (Ingrid Craigie) has an unspecified terminal illness and herself and husband Billy (Nick Dunning) are sorting out matters before the inevitable happens: clearing the attic; making decisions about property; collecting medication from the pharmacy. This stocktaking revives the spirit of their younger selves, who manifest as Margaret (Zara Devlin) and William (Naoise Dunbar). The younger actors relive their early and middle years together, and the play is about the memories of a long marriage. Written by Welsh playwright Abi Morgan, it premiered in 2011.

Ingrid Craigie: ‘Normally I wouldn't be going to an ex's wedding. But that was a long time ago'
The Irish actress on her philosophy of friendship Today at 21:30 'When you're older and at a certain point in your life, you have all these memories,' says Ingrid Craigie. 'You are the same person, but experience has changed you. You feel the same but you have the chance to look back. That can be poignant and moving and funny, but you can't change the past.' On a grey Saturday afternoon, Ingrid is in Dublin's Gresham Hotel, elegant as ever. Her dark hair is dashed with bold streaks of white. This is partly a new look since Covid and it is staying that way for her role in Lovesong.
