More to come from Haydock Eyecatcher Volterra

That was over seven furlongs and Kevin Ryan returned him over that trip in the John of Gaunt at Haydock, where for much of the race he travelled like the winner. Surprisingly for a horse with several races over a mile he was outstayed, fading into third, and it would be no surprise were he to win a big race over six furlongs this season for the same connections as Inisherin, although his only Royal Ascot entries are over a mile.

Inisherin coming to the boil for Royal Ascot run

'He's come out of York brilliantly. He went there undercooked for one reason or another, but his class helped him get away with it,' said Ryan. 'He's going to improve an awful lot for York and he's actually sort of woken up a lot for it and being to the races and getting competitive again.' Inisherin delivered what his trainer termed an 'electric' performance to scoop the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last season and he is as short as 4-1 for a second successive win at the meeting in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, a race Ryan landed in 2020 with Hello Youmzain. The handler added: 'Ascot will be his next run and we can go there under not as much pressure training-wise with the first run out of the way. 'His performance there in the Commonwealth Cup was electric and if we can get him there in the same shape, I can't see why he wouldn't run a big race again.'

King Of Cities supplemented for French Classic mission

Owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid has paid the €72,000 supplementary fee to enable the half-brother to Commonwealth Cup winner Inisherin to take his chance in the 10-furlong Classic. Speaking at Windsor on Monday, Hannon told Sky Sports Racing: 'I always thought he was an extremely good horse. He's by the best stallion in the world (Dubawi) and he has an extremely good pedigree. 'I was always slightly disappointed with him last year until he went to the Feilden Stakes first time out this year and the handicapper put him up 18lb, so he's now (rated) 111. 'He loved the ground that day and I was told that the sectionals he showed that day would have been good enough to win any Guineas. 'He doesn't have anything to prove to me, it's a big step up to go to the French Derby but he's capable of anything.' Andre Fabre has also supplemented the once-raced Sinileo, for the same connections who supplemented subsequent winner Sosie for the Prix d'Ispahan. There are now 18 possibles with John and Thady Gosden leaving in Detain and Bowmark, Charlie Fellowes has Luther while Aidan O'Brien has Camille Pissarro and Trinity College.
