List of educational institutes putting Türkiye on timeout grows longer as IIT Bombay joins in

In a move that underscores the growing intersection between academia and international diplomacy, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay announced on Saturday that it is processing the suspension of all academic collaborations with Turkish universities. The announcement, made via the institute's official X handle, stated that all agreements with Turkish institutions are being placed on hold "due to the current geopolitical situation involving Turkey." IIT Roorkee was one of the first to act, formally revoking its memorandum of understanding with Inonu University. The institute publicly reaffirmed its dedication to international partnerships that are consistent with national interests and academic priorities. Soon after, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) suspended its own agreement with Inonu University, citing national security considerations. Jamia Millia Islamia also moved quickly to distance itself from Türkiye by cancelling all existing collaborations. Similarly, Maulana Azad National Urdu University in Hyderabad withdrew from a long-standing MoU with the government-affiliated Yunus Emre Institute, pointing to Ankara's support for Pakistan as a critical factor. State-run Kanpur University severed academic ties with Istanbul University, saying that continuing such partnerships while Türkiye supports a hostile stance toward India would be unacceptable. Chandigarh University ended academic collaborations with 23 universities in Türkiye and Azerbaijan, while Lovely Professional University (LPU) cancelled all agreements with institutions in both countries. In a public statement, LPU's leadership stressed the importance of standing with the nation during times of military and diplomatic crisis. Economic Times WhatsApp channel )
