LG Energy Solution eyes European ESS market with locally made batteries
Korean firm to unveil battery passport system to cope with European regulation LG Energy Solution will unveil a new 20-foot container-type energy storage system equipped with made-in-Europe lithium iron phosphate battery cells at the InterBattery Europe 2025 held at Messe Munich this week, the company said Tuesday. The Korean battery maker underscored that the new ESS product's stackable structure and thermal barrier technology provides higher energy density and improved safety. According to LG Energy Solution, the new product features an ESS-dedicated cell, the JF2S, which boasts an energy capacity 2.7 times higher than the previous model. LG Energy Solution will also display JF1R, an ESS product developed to target European households, at the battery exhibition slated from Wednesday to Friday. The company highlighted that installment of the JF1R requires only one person and about 10 minutes, adding that it guarantees quality assurance of up to 15 years. LG Energy Solution plans to begin producing ESS batteries at its Wroclaw plant in Poland at the end of this year after setting up ESS-dedicated production lines there. Through this, the company expects to secure a stable local supply and a capacity that efficiently manages the needs of customers in Europe. LG Energy Solution will also debut a pilot version of its battery passport system at the event as it seeks to meet battery regulations in the European Union. The battery passport system is designed to strengthen each product's environmental, social and governance, or ESG, competitiveness throughout a battery's life cycle and related supply chains. This is achieved by digitizing key information such as its function, chemical materials and carbon footprints. 'We are proactively coping with the customer demands based on the high quality and local production system in the European market, where the demand for ESS systems is rapidly expanding,' said Kim Hyung-sik, vice president of LG Energy Solution's ESS division. 'We will further solidify our ESS leadership in Europe by thoroughly responding to the changing policy environment and offering total solutions combining both software and hardware.'

Samsung SDI to showcase next-gen battery tech for AI data centers at InterBattery Europe
Korean battery-maker says its optimized solution guarantees high performance, maximum safety Samsung SDI will look to capture global attention with a full-size uninterruptible power supply -- or UPS -- system made for artificial intelligence data centers at InterBattery Europe 2025 in Munich this week, as the battery-maker showcases a wide range of next-generation products, the company said Tuesday. According to Samsung SDI, the UPS is equipped with its new battery, the U8A1, which boasts higher power output to reduce the required installation space by about 33 percent in comparison to previous models. As a UPS system is developed to supply emergency power to AI data centers during an outage, Samsung SDI highlighted that its UPS system presents itself as an optimized solution for AI data centers with high performance and maximum safety. Samsung SDI will also showcase its SBB 1.5, energy storage system -- or ESS -- batteries installed in a 20-foot container featuring battery cells, modules, racks, safety devices and a ventilation system, at the exhibition. The company said the SBB 1.5 offers enhanced safety due to its Enhanced Direct Injection -- or EDI -- technology that can extinguish fires in the modules. The Korean battery-maker plans to highlight the competitiveness of its prismatic batteries tailored to suit electric vehicles and ESS. Along with that, the company will emphasize its advanced safety technology called "No Thermal Propagation," which prevents heat from proliferating between cells by using multiple integrated safety devices. 'At InterBattery Europe 2025, Samsung SDI will showcase innovative and safety-enhanced products, including next-generation batteries optimized for the AI era,' said a Samsung SDI official. 'The company will continue to lead the market with advanced battery technologies.' Marking its third edition, InterBattery Europe 2025 will run from Wednesday to Friday at Messe Munich.

Samsung SDI to showcase energy storage innovations at InterBattery Europe
Korean battery maker Samsung SDI announced Monday that it will participate in InterBattery Europe 2025, to be held in Munich, Germany, as part of its effort to strengthen its presence in the region's rapidly growing energy storage market. The exhibition, a part of Europe's largest energy industry gathering, The Smarter E Europe, will host around 200 companies and run from June 7 to 9. As Europe's data center energy demand is projected to triple between 2024 and 2030, Samsung SDI plans to showcase products designed to deliver stable power to the facilities, alongside its latest battery innovations. 'Samsung SDI will showcase its portfolio of energy storage system batteries optimized for a wide range of customer applications at the exhibition,' said a Samsung SDI official. 'Visitors will be able to get a glimpse of how Samsung SDI's energy storage system batteries are connected to everyday life.' At the event, Samsung SDI will publicly unveil its uninterruptible power supply system, the U8A1. According to the company, the U8A1 is designed to supply power to data centers during outages, featuring ultra-high power output and high power density, while occupying minimal space. The U8A1 has also been selected as a finalist for The Smarter E Award, which recognizes top innovations showcased during the exhibition, making Samsung SDI the only Korean battery-maker waiting for the award this year. The company will also highlight the Samsung Battery Box 1.5, which was previously displayed at InterBattery Seoul 2025 in March. Shaped like a 20-foot-long container, the energy storage solution is equipped with an advanced fire suppression system that injects extinguishing material directly into overheating cells, offering enhanced safety, the company said.

Samsung SDI to promote ESS battery products in Europe
Samsung SDI Co., South Korea's second-largest battery maker, said Monday it will promote its latest energy storage system battery products at a major European battery exhibition next month. Samsung SDI will take part in InterBattery Europe 2025, one of the key exhibitions under The Smarter E Europe -- the continent's largest energy industry event -- set to take place in Germany from May 7-9, the company said in a press release. At this year's show, the company plans to introduce a variety of next-generation batteries, with a special focus on its ESS technology designed for the emerging era of artificial intelligence. The products on display will include the U8A1, a new battery developed for uninterruptible power supply systems, and the Samsung Battery Box 1.5. A UPS is a crucial backup system that provides emergency power to facilities like data centers during outages. The SBB 1.5 boasts improved safety features by using enhanced direct injection technology, which sprays fire-extinguishing agents directly onto battery modules to prevent overheating and thermal spread. Samsung SDI is the only Korean battery company to be named a finalist for The Smart E Award at this year's event, the release said. The Smart E Awards honor innovative products and technologies across five categories: energy storage, electric mobility, solar energy, smart energy solutions, and outstanding projects. (Yonhap)
