Iraq: Humanitarian commitment to supporting victims of Terrorism

INA - QAIRO Iraq affirmed its commitment to supporting victims of terrorism and strengthening international partnerships, on Tuesday. The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Cairo and the Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Qahtan Al-Janabi, headed the Iraqi delegation participating in the celebration of the International Day for Awareness of the Pain and Tragedies of Victims of Terrorism, held on May 27th, 2025, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, according to the Iraqi News Agency - INA reporter. Al-Janabi highlighted, in his speech at the celebration, "Iraq has made great efforts in confronting terrorism and its repercussions," noting "the great sacrifices made by Iraqis in defense of their national security and regional and international peace." "Iraq has not only achieved a battlefield victory over terrorist organizations but is also keen to continue supporting victims and those affected by it, in terms of providing financial assistance and hosting the next international conference to support victims of terrorism in 2026. This step reflects Iraq's humanitarian and moral commitment to this group that has suffered the scourge of violence and extremism," he added. The Ambassador reiterated "Iraq's firm position in supporting the efforts of the United Nations and its specialized agencies, as well as enhancing cooperation with friendly countries in the field of empowering victims of terrorism and reintegrating them into their societies as productive and active individuals." "Iraq made efforts to deepen partnerships with the United Nations offices concerned with counterterrorism. The establishment of the National Counterterrorism Center, which prioritizes providing comprehensive support to victims of terrorism, whether psychologically, socially, or legally," he pointed out. He concluded his remarks by emphasizing that "Iraq will continue to carry out its mission of combating terrorism in all its forms, defending human values, and achieving justice for its victims," thanking the League of Arab States "for organizing this important event, appreciating its efforts in shedding light on a noble humanitarian cause that requires continued regional and international cooperation."
