Mass. firefighter arrested at work in connection with child sex abuse materials

A Massachusetts firefighter was arrested at work on Wednesday in connection with owning and sharing child sex abuse materials. Kyle Lichwell, 34, of Sterling, was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of distributing material of a child in a sexual act. He was a full-time firefighter in the town of Berlin but officials said he is no longer employed by the town. The town said although the investigation was months long, it didn't know about the allegations until May 28. Lichwell was arrested at 7:30 p.m. the same day. The Berlin Police Department was notified with a tip by Massachusetts State Police Cyber Crime Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force on April 11. The investigation led them to Lichwell. 'As Chief of Police, I'm very proud of how everyone worked together for a very successful conclusion in this matter,' Police Chief Sean Gaudette wrote in a press release. Mifflinburg man accused of possessing child porn deemed not competent

LEWISBURG — A Mifflinburg man allegedly found with multiple pictures and videos of child pornography at his home in Lewis Township is not competent enough to stand trial. Following a brief hearing on Friday, Union County Judge Michael Piecuch ruled that Aaron Reed Kahley, 35, of Wirth Road, Mifflinburg, must seek outpatient counseling services within 30 days in an effort to restore competency and move the case forward in the Court of Common Pleas. Kahley was charged in July by state police with 10 counts of possessing child pornography and one felony count of criminal use of a communication facility. The ruling was made based on a competency evaluation and recommendation from Dr. William Anzalone, a Wilkes-Barre-based licensed psychologist. First Assistant District Attorney Phil Sassaman and Public Defender Brian Ulmer did not oppose the recommendation. Piecuch ordered a status conference to be scheduled within 90 days to reevaluate Kahley's competency. The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a referral after four Cybertip Line reports were generated between Aug. 29, 2022, and May 2, 2024, for a total of five pieces of media that were flagged as Child Sexual Abuse Material and child exploitation. Two of the tips were flagged by Snapchat and two were flagged by Google. The accounts and IP address were allegedly registered to Kahley, police said. A search warrant for Kahley's residence was granted on July 17 and performed on July 18. Kahley, in an interview conducted in his room, allegedly admitted that he had previously observed child pornography using a mobile device, police said. Kahley confirmed his cellphone number was the same one that matched the Cyber Tip Line and the multiple flagged emails, police said. Extraction of the device and a review of the media performed at the state police barracks in Milton provided more than 30 additional child pornography pictures and videos. The videos were similar in nature to the original flagged images and depicted prepubescent nude males and females being sexually assaulted by adult males, police said. Kahley was arraigned on July 18 in front of on-call Selinsgrove District Judge Scott Zeigler and committed to Union County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 20 in front of Mensch. Kayley has been free since July 22 after posting $50,000 cash bail through Professional Surety Hart Bottorf of Reading. He must continue to abide by all bail conditions.

Former Dayton attorney gets prison for grooming girl in Nevada

Apr. 9—A former Dayton attorney was sentenced to prison for grooming a girl in Nevada by exchanging explicit images, discussing sexual fantasies and asking her for sex. Chris Six, 35, was sentenced by Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Judge Dennis Adkins to three to four and a half years in prison. Six also was designated a Tier II sex offender, which means he will have to register his address every 180 days for 25 years. The investigation into Six started in March 2023 after the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force told Dayton police that he may have images of child sexual assault on his Snapchat account, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office. "After a thorough search of the defendant's electronics and online accounts, it was determined he had maintained contact with an underage minor in Nevada and had sent and requested nude images. Additionally, the defendant had chats with the minor and discussed his (sexual fantasies). The relationship continued until the defendant's Snapchat account was shut down by the company because of the child pornographic material his account contained," according to a statement from the prosecutor's office. In a statement after Six's sentencing, the prosecutor's office said that Six chatted with the child discussing his bestiality, incest, urination and other fantasies. In a sentencing memorandum, prosecutors said that the girl told law enforcement Six asked her to send him videos acting out those fantasies and encouraged her to molest family members and other juveniles. An amended indictment filed Oct. 18 said the incidents began when the girl was 15 and happened from about April 30, 2021, to April 25, 2023. Six is a graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law who was admitted to the Ohio Bar in November 2021 as a transfer. His license to practice law was suspended Oct. 19, 2023. He was among 171 attorney sanctioned for failing to comply with continuing legal education requirements, and one of 16 suspended, according to the Ohio Supreme Court.
