Fahmi launches northern region's online safety campaign initiative

LANGKAWI: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today officiated the northern region's safe Internet campaign at Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Melaka, an initiative aimed at strengthening online safety and building a resilient digital community. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in a statement today said the campaign received an encouraging response with over 1,800 participants, comprising students from 22 schools, educators, parents, community leaders and representatives from relevant agencies. "It is part of the government's ongoing efforts to enhance digital literacy among Malaysians, particularly the younger generation, in tackling online risks such as cyberbullying, scams, online gambling and the exploitation of children," according to the MCMC. Over 100,000 participants across the northern states of Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak are expected to take part in the campaign throughout the year. Among the activities lined up were interactive sessions based on the Internet Safety Module tailored for children under 13, briefings for teachers and parents, a Choral Speaking competition themed around internet safety, and a "Menu Viral"{ competition, which promotes responsible online sharing under the 3S principle which is Semak Sebelum Sebar (Check Before Sharing). Also present at the launch were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, MCMC Commissioner Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Dato' Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, Kedah State Education Department's deputy director of Pupil Development Sector Tuan Haji Mohd Kamil Haji Hashim, and headmaster of Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Melaka, Encik Rizal Mohd Yusof.
