Why Miley Cyrus Won't Launch a Beauty Brand
Miley Cyrus has always used beauty—makeup, hair, and styling—to help her move through different eras in her career. There was the Hannah Montana wig, the Bangerz haircut, the Younger Now denim craze, and the Endless Summer Vacation blonde. Now, she's in her Something Beautiful era, and while the title of her new album might lend itself perfectly to launching a make up line, a Miley Cyrus beauty brand isn't coming anytime soon.
'My stepdad asked me the other day, 'Why are you the only one without a makeup line?' I was like, 'Cause that's not my passion.' He goes, 'That's the right answer,'' Miley said during her appearance on the NYT's Interview Podcast. 'And it made so much sense. It's like, 'I don't have a makeup line because I'm not a makeup artist.''
In other words, don't expect Miley to join the likes of Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Halsey, Millie Bobby Brown, Ariana Grande, etc. But, don't worry, she's not throwing shade. It's just not her thing! 'Some people operate differently, you know?' she continued, pointing specifically to her godmother, Dolly Parton. 'This woman [sells] cupcakes, Dollywood, amusement parks, all the things,' she said. 'I've never felt like that was really for me. And I've always admired that she can and wants [to]—it's like a deep passion for her. She absolutely adores it.'
Who knows if Miley will change her mind in the future. As a pop star, she's worked closely with beauty brands before—remember her MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam campaign?—so I wouldn't be surprised to see her do a collaboration of some kind down the line. Or maybe she'll launch a pet toy line or something else wild and unexpected! That's just Miley being Miley.
In the meantime, Miley is content focusing on her music career. 'To me, it's me by a piano writing songs and telling my stories, and then creating a gorgeous visual in support of that. That's what I love to do.'
