Iowa counties declare burn bans
Today isn't the best time for any outside fires.
The Scott County Emergency Management Agency, local fire chiefs and the State Fire Marshal's Office have determined that open burning constitutes a danger to life and property in Scott County. A burn ban is in effect as of February 27 at 4 p.m. for all of Scott County, pursuant to Iowa Code 100.41(1) until further notice. Dry weather conditions, projected rain amounts in the immediate future, dried vegetation and wind conditions were contributing factors in the decision. Residents will be notified when conditions improve enough to allow the ban to be lifted.
A burn ban is also in effect until further notice for Clinton County. The state fire marshal said in an email that there is no open burning in the county as of February 28 at 9 a.m. The fire marshal noted that violations of the order are simple misdemeanors.
