Israeli military official: Iran operation may end within 1 to 2 weeks
An official of the Israeli military has indicated that its operation in Iran is expected to be completed within one to two weeks.
Attention is now focused on how the United States will respond to the ongoing exchange of fire between the two countries, as President Donald Trump is urging Iran to surrender.
Early on Wednesday, the Israeli military announced that it had conducted an airstrike on the southwestern part of Iran's capital Tehran. It also said missiles had been launched from Iran. Footage from the city of Tel Aviv, Israel's main economic hub, shows interceptor missiles being fired.
On Tuesday, an Israeli military source said its planned attacks on Iranian nuclear and military facilities will be completed within one or two weeks.
But Israel's National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi said in a local media interview that the operation will not end without damaging the Iranian nuclear facility in Fordow. The nuclear enrichment facility lies about 80 meters underground.
Meanwhile, the office of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei posted on social media on Wednesday that the battle begins, reaffirming its stance of resistance against Israel.
A New York Times report on Monday said Trump is "weighing a critical decision" on "whether to enter the fray" by helping Israel destroy the Fordow facility. The report said only the US military's most powerful "bunker buster," dropped by B-2 bombers, can penetrate the site.
Trump called for Iran's "unconditional surrender" in a social media post on Tuesday.
