Iranian Regime Mouthpiece 'Kayhan' Praises Washington, D.C. Murder Of Israeli Embassy Staffers, Honoring 'Our Dear Brother Elias Rodriguez Who Shot The Two Wild Zionist Beasts... Sending Them To Hell.
Two days after the May 22, 2025 murder of two Israeli Embassy staffers, one of them an American, at a Jewish event at the Capitol Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., the Iranian daily Kayhan, which is the mouthpiece of the Iranian regime and of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, praised assassin Elias Rodriguez, calling him "our dear brother" for shooting "two wild Zionist beasts in Washington and sending them to Hell." The same day, May 24, Iranian TV also celebrated the murders, dubbing Rodriguez "the American Yahya Sinwar" who had "sent"two Zionist dogs" to Hell. The program host stressed that the event marked the establishment of an additional branch of the Iranian resistance in the U.S. Kayhan stated that Rodriguez's terror operation heralds "the declaration of a branch of the Basij" the paramilitary organization subjugate to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), in the heart of Washington, the American capital. It also called for further terror operations of this kind on U.S. soil, labeling Rodriguez's attack "a good and desirable beginning before God." The statements appeared in the satire section "Conversation," which is under the direct oversight of Hossein Shariatmadari, the newspaper's editor-in-chief and a close associate of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The column, titled "Basij Washington!" stated: "Vengeance against Israel in the heart of America – a young American assassinated two Zionist diplomats." The following is a translation of the column titled "Basij Washington!" and the MEMRI TV clip of the Iranian TV celebration of the murder of two Israel Embassy staffers in what was described as a "martyrdom operation" carried out by a branch of the Iranian resistance axis. Kayhan Declares The Establishment Of "Basij Washington" Under the title "Basij Washington!" the column stated: "He said: How is our dear brother Elias Rodriguez, who shot two wild Zionists beasts in Washington and sent them to Hell? "I said: Good for him. [This] is a good and desirable beginning before God. They say that the Basij Washington [branch] declared its existence by virtue of this revolutionary operation. "He said: After assassinating the two Zionists, this brother Basij member stood bravely and completely coolly while being handcuffed, and called loudly 'Free, free Palestine!'... "He said: Kristi Noem, the American homeland security secretary, expressed profound concern about this incident, and said that it is not impossible that such actions will become a recurring pattern. "He said: A guy stood at a well and said over and over, 'Four, four, four...' Someone approached him and asked him, What are you saying? The man pushed him into the well and said 'Five, five, five..."[1] Kayhan front page, May 24, 2025, the edition with the column, and the "Basij Washington!" column. Calling the terror operation on U.S. soil "a new axis of resistance [that] has been born," the program host crowned Rodriguez an emissary of the ideology of the Islamic revolution that is being spread worldwide by the Iranian regime. He described Rodriguez as an American hero who, with his operation of murder, had dared to defy President Trump's sympathy for Israel. Against the backdrop of footage from the film "12 Years a Slave" and from police dispersion of pro-Palestinian campus protests in the U.S., and other scenes, the show host lionized Rodriguez's act as a continuation of courageous activity against anti-Black and other forms of oppression in the U.S. In recent years, the Iranian regime has been flooding the West, and especially U.S. universities with the ideology of the Islamic Revolution, according to which action must be taken against the pro-Israel American authorities who, it maintains, are promoting racism against blacks and Muslims. ‘Positive atmosphere' as Iran–US talks open in Oman, say officials
Iran and the United States began indirect talks in Oman on Saturday to revive stalled negotiations over Tehran's rapidly advancing nuclear program. The discussions come amid renewed threats from US President Donald Trump, who warned of potential military action if no agreement is reached. According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, "indirect talks between Iran and the United States with the mediation of the Omani foreign minister have started." Messages are being exchanged through Oman's top diplomat, Badr al-Busaidi, with each delegation in separate rooms. The Iranian delegation is led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, while Trump's Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, heads the US team. These are the first nuclear-related discussions between Iran and the Trump administration, including during his earlier presidency from 2017 to 2021. An unnamed Iranian negotiator told Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency that the 'atmosphere of the talks is positive.' Baghaei confirmed on state TV that 'this is a beginning,' noting that both sides are presenting their main positions via the Omani mediator. However, he denied reports claiming the talks focused on prisoner exchanges and limited sanctions relief in exchange for nuclear restraints. According to Iranian state media, Araqchi met with Oman's foreign minister ahead of the session to outline Iran's 'key points and positions to be conveyed to the US side.' Despite a cautious tone from Tehran, Iranian officials confirmed that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has granted Araqchi full authority for the negotiations. "There is a chance for initial understanding on further negotiations if the other party enters the talks with an equal stance," Araqchi told Iranian TV. Tensions remain high, as Iran continues enriching uranium up to 60 percent purity — near weapons-grade level — and Trump's administration has reimposed a 'maximum pressure' sanctions campaign since February. Trump also scrapped the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018 and has repeatedly threatened to strike Iran's nuclear sites if no deal is made. Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful energy purposes, while the US, 'Israel', and European powers view its enrichment activities as a potential step toward developing nuclear weapons. The stakes are high. Failure in talks could raise the risk of a broader regional conflict. Since 2023, the Middle East has seen escalating violence — wars in Gaza and Lebanon, Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, and the collapse of Syria's government. Iran's influence in the region has also waned, with its "Axis of Resistance" allies, including Hamas and Hezbollah, significantly weakened in recent months. Tehran has warned neighboring countries hosting U.S. bases that they could face 'severe consequences' if involved in any military action against Iran.

Iran rejects direct nuke talks as Trump threatens 'bombing'
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday rebuked the idea of direct negotiations with US President Donald Trump's administration over its nuclear program. "We responded to the US president's letter via Oman and rejected the option of direct talks, but we are open to indirect negotiations," Pezeshkian said during a sitdown with his cabinet broadcast on Iranian TV. "We don't avoid talks; it's the breach of promises that has caused issues for us so far," Pezeshkian said. "They must prove that they can build trust." During Trump's first term in 2018, he pulled the US out of a nuclear agreement with Iran known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). That deal provided sanctions relief for Iran, with the Iranian government in exchange curbing its nuclear program and allowing inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency to periodically view its enrichment sites. France, Germany, Russia, the UK and the EU are some of the other parties signed onto the JCPOA. Trump sent a letter to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei earlier this month, urging Iran to reach a new nuclear deal with the US in his second term in the White House. In an interview with US broadcaster NBC News, Trump made new threats towards Iran if there is no new nuclear agreement with the US. "If they don't make a deal," Trump told the outlet on Saturday evening, referring to Iran. "There will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before." Trump claimed that representatives from the US and Iran are "talking" on the matter. The Trump administration has a "maximum pressure" approach towards Iran, which aims to both economically and politically isolate Tehran. The Trump administration has also vowed to crack down on so-called Iranian proxies in the Middle East region, with the US currently attacking the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.
