Baghdad-INA
The Iraqi Airports Authority announced on Wednesday that rehabilitation projects linked to the upcoming Arab League Summit are nearing completion. The Authority also noted that efforts to remove obstructions in the airfield zone are aligned with broader goals to lift the international ban on the national carrier.
The Director of the Iraqi Airports Department, Hussein Ali Hussein, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): 'unprecedented efforts are currently underway to finalize the projects associated with hosting the Arab Summit.' He explained that external projects include resurfacing and planning works on main airport roads and those designated for transporting summit delegations."
He added that internal works have involved rehabilitating gardens surrounding the airport terminals, extending to the exit points in zones A1 and A2.
Regarding airfield operations, Hussein noted that 'coordinated efforts are being made to clear physical and environmental obstructions around the airfield zone."
He emphasized that 'this is a highly specialized matter and plays a key role in efforts to lift the ban on the national carrier, in line with international aviation regulations set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)."
