Arab Parliament: Peace Requires Justice for Palestine

By Ahmad El-Assasy President of the Arab Parliament, Mohamed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, stressed that peace and stability in the Middle East cannot be achieved without a comprehensive and just resolution to the Palestinian issue — specifically through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative. Al-Yamahi made the remarks during the opening of the Arab Parliament's plenary session, held Monday in Baghdad, hosted by the Iraqi Council of Representatives and attended by Dr Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament. He warned of the grave consequences of the ongoing genocide being waged by the 'occupying entity' against the Palestinian people, denouncing the international community's continued silence as equally heinous as the crimes themselves. Al-Yamahi praised Iraq's hosting of the session and the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad, stating that these events symbolise the country's regained leadership role within the Arab system and reflect the security and stability achieved through the sacrifices of the Iraqi people from all walks of life. Addressing the broader challenges in the region, he warned that ongoing crises in several Arab countries continue to deplete national resources and exacerbate the region's struggles. He called for genuine Arab-led solutions, affirming the Arab Parliament's readiness to engage through parliamentary diplomacy. Al-Yamahi also urged accelerated action towards completing key Arab economic integration projects, describing economic and development challenges as equally critical as security and political threats — particularly in light of global trade wars and their impact on Arab economies. He expressed confidence in the upcoming Arab Summit scheduled for May in Baghdad, expressing hope that it would offer a clear roadmap for resolving ongoing Arab crises and advancing economic cooperation. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 .. Egyptian MP: Iraq's Arab Summit opens doors for diplomacy, investment

Shafaq News / Iraq hosting Arab conferences marks a significant achievement and could pave the way for increased diplomatic presence and foreign investment in the country, Egyptian MP Shadia El-Gamal said on Saturday. Speaking to Shafaq News, El-Gamal noted that the outcomes and recommendations of the ongoing Arab Parliament meetings will be forwarded to the upcoming Arab League Summit, also scheduled to be held in Baghdad. 'The summit will prioritize the Palestinian cause and broader regional developments,' she said. She emphasized that convening both the Arab Parliament this April and the Arab League Summit in May in the Iraqi capital is a notable success. 'This demonstrates Iraq's growing regional role and enhances its image, offering a more accurate picture than the one often portrayed abroad,' she added. The Arab Parliament meetings officially began on Saturday in Baghdad and will run through April 21. The Iraqi Council of Representatives is hosting the high-level sessions, which include the main parliamentary gathering and four standing committee meetings, with participation from 60 representatives from across the Arab world. Barzani on Halabja recognition: A source of pride and responsibility

Shafaq News/ Kurdish President Nechirvan Barzani on Monday welcomed Iraq's recognition of Halabja as the country's 19th province, calling it the culmination of long-standing Kurdish efforts to honor the city's legacy. 'Today's decision by the Iraqi Council of Representatives to designate Halabja as an official province is a source of pride and joy for all of us in Kurdistan,' Barzani said in a statement. The move, he emphasized, should pave the way for reconstruction and improved public services. 'This is a responsibility we all share, and we must fulfill it with dedication.' Halabja, the site of a 1988 chemical attack that killed thousands of civilians during Saddam Hussein's rule, has long stood as a symbol of Kurdish suffering and resilience. Iraq's parliament approved the province's new status earlier on Monday by majority vote.
