Jesus Casas fired as Iraq National Team coach
Baghdad ( – The Iraq Football Association has officially dismissed Spanish coach Jesus Casas following the national team's 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Palestine. Despite an impressive start to his tenure, Casas' reign ultimately unraveled due to a string of poor performances, leading to his departure tonight. Casas, who took charge of Iraq in 2022, initially brought hope and stability to the squad. Under his guidance, Iraq secured notable victories, including their Gulf Cup triumph in 2023. However, recent struggles in World Cup qualifying matches against Kuwait and Palestine raised concerns over the team's trajectory, culminating in the decision to relieve him of his duties. The Iraqi FA is now expected to seek a replacement who can reignite the team's World Cup aspirations.
