A centenarian received hundreds of birthday cards in a "heartwarming" response to an appeal by her care home. Irene Weaver turned 100 years old on Wednesday with 370 cards from people in the UK and around the the lead-up to her milestone birthday, the staff at her care home in Roxburgh House, Cradley Heath, launched an appeal to make her day extra special. Nicola Oldham, the care home manager, said: "The look on Irene's face as she opened card after card was priceless – it's a birthday none of us will ever forget." Ms Weaver, who was born in Birmingham in 1925, celebrated her birthday with family, fellow residents, and dedicated care "overwhelming" response also saw a crew from West Midlands Fire Service making a visit to personally extend their well wishes. She moved into Roxburgh House in March, supported by her Oldham said: "From everyone here at HC-One's Roxburgh House Care Home, we want to thank everyone who wished Irene the happiest of 100th birthdays. Birmingham care home card appeal for resident's 100th birthday

A care home in the Black Country is appealing for 100 people to send in birthday cards to celebrate the 100th birthday and "incredible life" of one of its residents. Irene Weaver, resident of Roxburgh House Care Home in Cradley Heath, will reach the milestone on 28 are appealing to members of the public to send a card with a joke or heartfelt message to make her day "extra special". Manager Nicola Oldham said: "Whether it's a store-bought card, a handmade masterpiece, or just a simple note, we want to fill her day with lots of love and laughter." Workers added they wanted the almost-centenarian, who also loves cats and dogs, to feel the "joy" she had given to others over the Weaver was born in Birmingham in 1925, the same year the Hall of Memory memorial was unveiled in the city's Centenary Square commemorating local citizens who had died during World War worked in a warehouse and was brought up with her four sisters and brother. After marrying husband Tom, she had three children and now has six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, the care home said. She moved into Roxburgh House in March, supported by her said they were looking forward to celebrating Irene's big day and hoped the cards would serve as a reminder of how "fabulous she is".
