Large cabbage donation made to Second Harvest in wake of parade cancellation
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Following the cancellation of the Irish Channel St. Patrick's Day parade, the krewe has decided to donate their throws. The Algiers Irish Rebels have donated 33,500 pounds of cabbage to Second Harvest Food Bank in a 'remarkable display of generosity and community support.' Learn the 'roots of our culture' at free Congo Square Rhythms Festival Krewe officials said the nearly 17-ton donation, that was originally intended to be thrown from multiple floats, will now feed local families in need. On Friday, March 28, trucks loaded with cabbage, along with several kilt-wearing members were on hand to unload the delivery in festive spirit. 'This donation reflects the heart of what this season is all about — generosity, celebration, and looking out for each other,' said Lance Arnold of the Algiers Irish Rebels. St. Patrick's Day parade canceled as weather scrambles plans
