Springfield St. Patrick's Parade Committe holds Marshal Reception
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Irish festivities were held in Springfield ealier Sunday for the parade marshal reception at the John Boyle O'Reilly Club.
This year's parade Marshal is Kathy Tobin Martin who was honored Sunday evening. Martin Will be leading the Springfield contingent at the Upcoming Holyoke St. Patrick's parade. Martin is looking forward to honoring both her family's legacy and the contribution of Irish immigrants who helped shape the region.
'I love this city and I love this coomunity that has made me feel welcome. And I love the tradition of handing it off generation to generation. So ths is probably the most special day in my life, walking down the parade route with all of my communtiy,' said Martin.
Martin recieved an Irish Shillelagh, which is a wooden walking stick that is handed down from Marshal to Marshal. She'll be using it in the parade on March 23rd, which you can watch on 22News.
