Man accused of kidnapping woman in Las Vegas, driving her to Utah

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man is accused of kidnapping a woman in Las Vegas and driving her to Utah after he suspected her of cheating, according to the Iron County Sheriff's Office. Epigmenio Bustillo-Marquez, 53, faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, assault, providing peace officers false personal info, interruption of communication device, prohibited use of identification card and operating a vehicle without a license, ICSO said. On Saturday around 1:20 p.m., deputies from ICSO responded to the Cedar Bands Travel Plaza after a report of a suspicious situation. When deputies arrived, a customer told them that a woman approached her in that bathroom and handed her a note that said she was in trouble and the man driving the Chevrolet Equinox she was in was taking her to either Salt Lake City or Denver and threatened to harm her, according to ICSO. The Chevrolet left the Cedar Bands Travel Plaza, the woman followed it in her car as it traveled northbound on the I-15. Deputies pulled the SUV over once it approached Cedar City. When deputies approached the passenger's side of the vehicle, the victim mouthed 'Help Me,' ICSO said. The woman, who was from Las Vegas and was wearing a Treasure Island uniform, told police that Bustillo-Marquez was supposed to take her to work that day, but instead, he started to drive north. She said that her phone had been taken away and she was being held against her will by Bustillo-Marquez because he suspected her of cheating, ICSO said. Bustillo-Marquez and the victim had lived with each other for 25 years. ICSO said Bustillo-Marquez claimed they were traveling to Salt Lake City to visit family, however deputies discovered that his family lived in St. George. Bustillo-Marquez was arrested and taken to the Iron County Correctional Facility. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
