Six local kids among Military Child of the Year semifinalists
(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Kids across the nation from families of numerous military branches have been selected as semifinalists for the Military Child of the Year Award, including six from Colorado Springs and surrounding areas.
The Military Child of the Year Award is presented by Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit working to build strong, stable, and secure military families. The yearly award celebrates the accomplishments of America's military children by recognizing the positive influence they have on their families, schools, and communities, despite the unique challenges these young people often face as they serve the nation alongside their parents.
Finalists for the 2024 Military Child of the Year Award will be selected in February by a panel of independent, volunteer judges.
Across the nation, there are 105 semifinalists representing all seven military branches, selected from 900 exceptional children who were nominated. Six kids have been named semifinalists from the Colorado Springs area, representing the Air Force, Space Force, Army, and Navy:
17-year-old Mary Angelique Abrenica–Fort Carson, CO (Army)
14-year-old Isabelle Button–Colorado Springs, CO (Space Force)
16-year-old Evelyn Doyle–Colorado Springs, CO (Navy)
17-year-old Jazmine Jaramillo–Fountain, CO (Army)
17-year-old Julius Tsuber–Colorado Springs, CO (Army)
17-year-old Brynn Makros–Colorado Springs, CO (Air Force)
The final seven award recipients–one representing each branch of the military–will be announced in March, and each will receive $10,000, a laptop computer, and other donated gifts at a gala held in their honor in Washington D.C. in April.
