Stolen AR-15 recovered from man who allegedly pointed it at detective in Nashboro Village
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro Police have arrested a man accused of pointing an AR-15 at a detective, a gun which was found to be stolen from a Williamson County Sheriff's Office patrol car.
According to Metro Police, a detective surveilling an apartment complex in the 700 block of Nashboro Boulevard was seated in an unmarked police vehicle when three men approached him. Isaiah Newsom, 25, reportedly approached the driver's side window with an AR-15 and pointed it at the detective.
Once additional officers arrived, the detective in the unmarked car activated the police lights and sirens before he stepped out and identified himself as an officer, at which point Newsom and the two men ran away.
After a short pursuit, Newsom was stopped near Shadowood Court and Rollingwood Lane.
The AR-15 was recovered on the path Newsom fled, and officials noted it was loaded with the selector switch set to fire. After an investigation, it was confirmed stolen from a marked Williamson County Sheriff's Office vehicle in Franklin.
Speaking with detectives, Newsom reportedly said he knew there was someone in the vehicle when he approached it because he saw a light on the detective's body camera. He also admitted the AR-15 was in his possession before he ran from officers.
