AmanahRaya Reit acquires RM39mil industrial property in Teluk Panglima Garang

KUALA LUMPUR: AmanahRaya Real Estate Investment Trust (ARReit) has acquired a single-storey detached factory in Teluk Panglima Garang, Selangor, from Alpha Express Sdn Bhd for RM39 million. The manager of ARReit, AmanahRaya Kenedix Reit Manager Sdn Bhd (AKRM), said ARReit had entered into two agreements under a sale and leaseback arrangement with Alpha Express for a duration of 10 years. AKRM managing director Mohd Iskandar Dzulkarnain said the acquisition aligns with ARReit's strategy to strengthen its industrial asset portfolio with income-generating properties secured under long-term leases. "The asset acquisition benefits ARReit by expanding its existing portfolio, which previously included only one asset in this particular industry. This second asset strengthens our position in the sector and allows us to further grow our industrial asset sub-portfolio. "In general, this collaboration supports industry players who meet our criteria to expand their businesses, while also allowing them to offload assets they consider to have potential to ARReit, which in turn has a positive impact on the economy," he told Bernama at the ARReit Connect 2025 signing ceremony and stakeholders showcase held here today. In addition to the signing ceremony, ARReit Connect 2025 served as a platform to strengthen strategic partnerships, bringing together key stakeholders including Amanah Raya Bhd, HELP University, Alfa University College, Knight Frank, Anytime Fitness and IMT Tech. Meanwhile, Iskandar noted that the total assets under AKRM's management now stand at RM1.3 billion. "We will return to the company's core focus, which is on asset industries involving the healthcare and wellness sectors, as well as educational assets. This remains ARReit's main focus in efforts to expand its existing asset portfolio. "This growth will not stop here — it is expected to continue steadily over the next three years," he said. Additionally, ARReit also announced the successful conclusion of its annual general meeting (AGM), where all resolutions were passed with unanimous shareholder approval. "The AGM reaffirmed continued investor confidence in ARReit's direction and governance, particularly as we embark on a more dynamic portfolio management strategy focused on triple net lease structures, environmental, social, and governance-aligned investments and market diversification," ARReit said.

Iskandar in two minds about coaching offer from BAM

PETALING JAYA: It is a tough call for Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin as he weighs between continuing his coaching career in Ireland or answering the call to return home. The former national men's singles shuttler has confirmed that the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have reached out to him with a coaching offer. But it's still unclear whether the role is for the men's or women's singles squad. BAM are currently short of options in the singles department following the surprise resignation of women's singles coach Jeffer Rosobin at the end of April. Since taking up the role in Ireland four years ago, Iskandar has steadily made a name for himself in Europe. He has been instrumental in the rise of Nhat Nguyen, who is now ranked No. 33 in the world, and has helped elevate the profile of Irish badminton. Under his guidance, Ireland qualified two players for the Paris Olympics, namely Nguyen and women's singles shuttler Rachael Darragh, marking a major milestone for the country. Adding to the Malaysian presence in Ireland is Iskandar's former national teammate Yeoh Seng Zoe, who is currently serving as Ireland's high performance coach. Given the progress made and his long-term plans with Ireland, Iskandar is understandably cautious about making any move. 'I've been given a lot of trust here in Ireland, and I need to deliver results,' said the 33-year-old. 'I've been contacted by BAM, but I need to weigh everything carefully. I'm still young in coaching and want to prove myself first. 'I was fortunate to be guided by coaches like Datuk Misbun Sidek and Hendrawan, and I incorporate what I've learned from them into my own methods. 'My immediate goal is to help Ireland win a medal at the European Championships. We're also running development programmes in schools, and I hope this will unearth more talent for the country.' Iskandar first joined Ireland as a sparring partner for Nguyen during his preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He was later appointed as Nguyen's full-time coach and eventually took over the entire singles programme. Nguyen came close to realising Iskandar's dream of winning a European medal this year, reaching the quarter-finals in Horsens, Denmark, before losing to France's Alex Lanier. Nguyen's campaign at the Malaysian Masters ended yesterday in the second round following a 23-21, 21-17 defeat to India's K. Srikanth. In the opening round, he had stunned home favourite Leong Jun Hao.

Iskandar Confirms BAM Approach For Coaching Role

KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 (Bernama) -- Ireland badminton team's singles head coach Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin has confirmed that he has been approached by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to join their ranks. However, the former Malaysian men's singles player could not confirm the position offered to him by the national governing body. 'Someone (from BAM) did contact me, but let's see how things go. I still have a contract (with Ireland) until 2028. bootstrap slideshow 'I need to consider what my goals are. Nhat Nguyen (Ireland's men's singles shuttler) is still young. I also need to discuss with my family, as they are all in Ireland, and I have to see what's best,' he said when met at the Malaysia Masters 2025 at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, yesterday. Iskandar, 33, said he is determined to prove himself as a coach, especially after raising Nguyen's level of play to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Iskandar, who has been coaching in Ireland since 2022, also hopes to produce players capable of winning medals at future European Badminton Championships. If he serves out his contract, he wants to help Ireland break the European badminton dominance long held by Denmark, England and France. 'We've also started a junior programme, with players training in the morning and evening. I hope with this development programme, we can go further,' he said. -- BERNAMA

Hydrographic survey needed to tackle Bintulu flooding, says Jepak rep

Iskandar says that the survey's findings would enable the government to implement targeted short- and long-term flood mitigation measures. – Photo by Roystein Emmor KUCHING (May 22): A hydrographic survey is urgently needed to identify the root causes of flooding in Bintulu, particularly to assess the depth and sedimentation levels of local rivers that contributed to severe inundation earlier this year, said Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee. Speaking during his Motion of Appreciation on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri's address at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today, Iskandar highlighted that the flooding on January 29 had paralysed activities in the division, especially in the town area. 'Besides natural causes, we believe there are other contributing factors to the disaster. One of them is the weakness in the drainage system in Bintulu, which prevented Sungai Sebiew from effectively discharging excess water, leading to a rapid surge in river levels,' he said. To address the problem, Iskandar proposed several risk management strategies, starting with the hydrographic survey. 'To ensure smooth river flow from upstream to the estuaries of Sungai Sebiew and Sungai Kemena, a hydrographic survey must be conducted to determine the depth and sedimentation that may be causing floods,' he said. He added that the survey's findings would enable the government to implement targeted short- and long-term flood mitigation measures. 'These measures may include river dredging, construction of flood retention ponds, upgrading of drainage systems, expanding monsoon drains in densely populated residential areas, and relocating residents affected by floods,' he said. Iskandar also stressed the importance of enhancing communication and utility infrastructure resilience during disasters. He suggested that power supplies for petrol stations and telecommunications towers be backed by standalone systems, and that substations be constructed on elevated terrain to prevent flood damage. 'This is to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply and functional communication systems during flood emergencies,' he said. Furthermore, Iskandar advocated for broader adoption of satellite communication technology, such as Starlink, especially in rural areas, with solar power as a sustainable energy source. Lastly, he called for the establishment of a Smart Data Utility Bank encompassing every division, district, town, village, and longhouse to maintain a comprehensive inventory of key infrastructure locations. 'This would help the government manage risks more systematically, swiftly, and effectively by enabling relevant departments or agencies to respond accordingly,' he said. Investors in Iskandar Waterfront City Berhad (KLSE:IWCITY) have unfortunately lost 54% over the last year

The nature of investing is that you win some, and you lose some. Anyone who held Iskandar Waterfront City Berhad (KLSE:IWCITY) over the last year knows what a loser feels like. To wit the share price is down 54% in that time. On the bright side, the stock is actually up 16% in the last three years. Shareholders have had an even rougher run lately, with the share price down 17% in the last 90 days. We note that the company has reported results fairly recently; and the market is hardly delighted. You can check out the latest numbers in our company report. With that in mind, it's worth seeing if the company's underlying fundamentals have been the driver of long term performance, or if there are some discrepancies. Our free stock report includes 3 warning signs investors should be aware of before investing in Iskandar Waterfront City Berhad. Read for free now. Given that Iskandar Waterfront City Berhad didn't make a profit in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally hope to see good revenue growth. That's because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size. In just one year Iskandar Waterfront City Berhad saw its revenue fall by 2.8%. That looks pretty grim, at a glance. In the absence of profits, it's not unreasonable that the share price fell 54%. Fingers crossed this is the low ebb for the stock. We don't generally like to own companies with falling revenues and no profits, so we're pretty cautious of this one, at the moment. The graphic below depicts how earnings and revenue have changed over time (unveil the exact values by clicking on the image). You can see how its balance sheet has strengthened (or weakened) over time in this free interactive graphic. We regret to report that Iskandar Waterfront City Berhad shareholders are down 54% for the year. Unfortunately, that's worse than the broader market decline of 5.6%. Having said that, it's inevitable that some stocks will be oversold in a falling market. The key is to keep your eyes on the fundamental developments. Regrettably, last year's performance caps off a bad run, with the shareholders facing a total loss of 8% per year over five years. Generally speaking long term share price weakness can be a bad sign, though contrarian investors might want to research the stock in hope of a turnaround. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Iskandar Waterfront City Berhad better, we need to consider many other factors. Like risks, for instance. Every company has them, and we've spotted 3 warning signs for Iskandar Waterfront City Berhad (of which 1 can't be ignored!) you should know about.
