Israel strikes Syria again, claims to have killed alleged Hamas member
The Israeli army has again bombed Syria, claiming it killed a Hamas member during an air strike in the south of the country, in the latest in its series of attacks on Syria in the wake of former President Bashar al-Assad's ouster last December. In a statement on Telegram on Sunday morning, the Israeli army said it had struck the alleged Hamas member in the Mazraat Beit Jin area. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that one person was killed and two others were wounded in the Israeli attack targeting a vehicle in the town near the United Nations-patrolled buffer zone. Hamas has not yet commented on the death of the alleged member. The observatory says Israel has carried out 61 attacks – 51 by air and 10 by ground – in Syria so far this year. Two rockets launched from Syria targeted Israel earlier this week, a first since the fall of al-Assad. Two groups claimed responsibility for the attack. The first group, named the 'Martyr Mohammed Deif Brigades', is a little-known group named after the Hamas military commander who was killed last year. A second little-known group, the 'Islamic Resistance Front in Syria', called for action against Israel from southern Syria a few months ago. Israel struck southern Syria shortly afterwards, with Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz saying that he was holding Syria 'directly responsible'. Syria's Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani condemned Israel's attacks and called them 'coordinated provocations aimed at undermining Syria's progress and stability'. 'These actions create an opening for outlawed groups to exploit the resulting chaos,' he said, adding, 'Syria has made its intentions clear: we are not seeking war, but rather reconstruction'. Syria and Israel had recently engaged in indirect talks to ease tensions, a significant development in relations between states that have been on opposite sides of conflicts in the Middle East for decades. But Israel has relentlessly waged a campaign of aerial bombardment that has destroyed much of Syria's military infrastructure. It has occupied the Syrian Golan Heights since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war and taken more territory in the aftermath of al-Assad's removal, citing lingering concerns over the country's new government led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who it dismisses as a 'jihadist.' Syria's new government has taken several major steps towards international acceptance after the United States and European Union lifted sanctions on the country last month, giving a nation devastated by nearly 14 years of civil war a lifeline to recovery.

Hezbollah denies role in Syria conflict, warns of disinformation campaigns
Shafaq News/ On Saturday, Lebanon's Hezbollah denied any involvement in the ongoing conflict in Syria, warning against 'disinformation campaigns' serving foreign agendas. "Some parties continue to drag Hezbollah's name into events in Syria, accusing it of being involved in the conflict," said a statement from the party's Media Relations Department. Hezbollah, the statement affirmed, categorically denied these allegations, calling them "completely baseless" and urging media outlets to 'report accurately and avoid being drawn into disinformation campaigns serving political goals and suspicious foreign agendas.' The Syrian coastal region witnessed two bloody days, as Syrian security forces announced clashes with armed groups described as "remnants of the former regime." Regarding the support behind these attacks, some parties hinted that an external group, Hezbollah or another group, may have facilitated the weapons supply, referring to the newly formed Islamic Resistance Front which emerged in Syria in response to the fall of the al-Assad regime and the Israeli invasion of the country. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the latest toll from the clashes stands at 93 dead among the interior and defense ministries' forces and 120 among the armed groups, while "scattered massacres" claimed 162 civilian lives in Syria's coastal provinces.

Syria's Islamic Resistance Front declares permanent status to confront occupation
Shafaq News/ The Islamic Resistance Front in Syria also known as 'Awliya al-Baas" announced on Tuesday that it has become a permanent front aiming to counter attempts at division and displacement. According to a statement, the front aims to be a unifying force for all segments of Syrian society, regardless of sect or religion, with a focus on safeguarding the country's security and territorial integrity. The statement described the front's formation as a response to "the systematic and coordinated Zionist-Turkish-American transfer plan, backed by Arab support, to divide Syria following the end of the era of the resistant and defiant Syrian regime [of Bashar Al-Assad], which had been the backbone of all resistance and liberation movements worldwide from 1970 until the end of 2024." "The front emerged from the Syrian people to confront any attempts to undermine the country's security, amid the absence of the political and social forces that previously governed Syria." The front's general commander, who was not named in the document, said the initiative seeks "to restore the nation's glory and protect it from terrorism and occupation," calling on Syrians to unite and stand against oppression. "This step is a natural and legitimate response to the attempts at division and displacement facing the country," the general commander was quoted as saying in the statement. In January, social media circulated a statement attributed to the group claiming responsibility for targeting Israeli forces in the village of Taranja in northern Quneitra, Syria. The Israeli research center Alma reported that the Syrian Social Nationalist Party established a group called the "Southern Liberation Front" in December. On January 12, the group reportedly changed its name to the "Islamic Resistance Front in Syria." According to the center's analysis, the group is likely operating with support from Iran and Lebanon's Hezbollah :as part of Tehran's broader efforts to establish a local infrastructure in southern Syria to confront Israel.'

Recently-Formed Formidable In Might Militia Declares 'The Start Of Preparations' For Violent Campaign Against Israeli, U.S., Turkish 'Occupation;' Calls 'To Set Ground On Fire Under Occupiers' Feet'
The following report is now a complimentary offering from MEMRI's Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor (JTTM). For JTTM subscription information, click here . On February 4, 2025, on its Telegram channel, the recently-formed Formidable in Might – Islamic Resistance Front in Syria militia issued an official statement from "the General Command" in which it declared "the start of preparations for The Promise of the Hereafter campaign against the Israeli, American, and Turkish occupation in Syria. In its statement the militia urges the "freemen" in Syria and around the world to organize continuous demonstrations and sit-ins. Addressing "the mujahideen and the members of the resistance" in Syria, it calls on them "to set the ground on fire under the feet of the occupiers." [1] It is notable that on January 17, 2025, the militia announced the start of its military operations against the Israeli forces in Syria, and as of this writing has claimed responsibility for two operations in the Quneitra area – the interception of an IDF drone on January 21 [2] , and an attack on IDF forces on January 31. [3] New Militia Claims: Syria Is Under Israeli, American, Turkish Occupation; The Regime Is Responsible For "Massacres" The February 4 statement from the Formidable in Might – Islamic Resistance Front in Syria militia asserts that Syria is under a triple occupation, as follows: in the south, it is occupied by "the Zionist entity," which, the militia claims, banishes the residents, steals their possessions and their land, and establishes settlements and "espionage bases;" in the east and the northeast of the country, it is occupied by the U.S., which, the militia claims, is building new bases, plundering resources, and "crossing all the red lines that define national sovereignty, as if Syria were a street in the city of Washington;" while in the north, according to the militia, it is occupied by Turkey, which the statement maintains, is building bases "destroying and bombing, while no one lifts a finger." In a direct address to the Syrian people, the militia contends that in the past it warned Israel, the U.S., and Turkey not to continue the occupation of Syrian territory, but they paid no attention. At the same time, it accuses the new government in Syria of responsibility for a series of "assassinations and massacres," apparently in the guise of sectarian clashes and the private settling of accounts, which it warns are likely to drown Syria in "a sea of blood." Militia Ready For Campaign Against Occupation; Calls "To Set Ground On Fire Under Occupiers' Feet" The militia announces that in light of all "these ongoing crimes" against the Syrian people, the support of the Arab and Western world, and "the silence" of the international community, it has decided to put an end to it all, and to show the enemies of Syria that "the days are over when they can do what they like with no one holding them responsible." It declares "the start of preparations for The Promise of the Hereafter campaign," and threatens that "this campaign's first blow will surprise its friends, not to mention its enemies, everywhere." At the conclusion of its statement the militia addresses "the freemen" in Syria and around the world and calls on them to hasten to Syria's aid and to hold ongoing demonstrations and sit-ins, with the aim of preventing the regimes that "support and cover-up the crimes of the occupiers" from continuing their occupation of Syria. It also addresses "the mujahideen, [the members of] our resistance, and the men of the free Syria" and urges them "to set the ground on fire under the oppressive occupiers' feet, with killing, fire, devastation, and the blocking of roads, so that this cowardly occupation will understand that The Promise of the Hereafter in Syria is greater than what they think. There will be no Zionist, American, or Turkish occupation. It is our right and we are the owners of the land."
