Scots coffee business forced to shut over ‘irreconcilable differences' leaving customers gutted

Isle Coffee, based in Edinburgh, started on the Isle of Harris before moving to Joppa to bring "good vibes and good coffee." But the firm has said it needs to shut shop due to issues with meeting the demands of Edinburgh City council. They added that they hope to return to the area in the future and said they were "devastated to have caused so much consternation". The van is set to return to the Outer Hebrides until then. In a social media post, owner Sean said: "It is with a deep sadness that I have to let the great customers of Joppa know that we are having to shut the Isle Coffee caravan on Morton St and Esplanade Terrace. "In trying to satisfy the needs of the council we have sadly not met the needs of the community and at this stage these seem to be irreconcilable differences. "We hope in the future to find a workable solution and that we may be able to return to our new home. "In the meantime we are heading back to Harris (good news for our Hearachs) at the end of the week and we will try and sort this all out from there. "We are devastated to have caused so much consternation, it was never our intention to bring anything other than good vibes and great coffee when we moved to Joppa. "We have loved meeting so many wonderful, friendly and joyful locals - it is a truly fantastic place to live and we have been made feel so welcome by so many people, we just hope we can sort things out and come back to Joppa." One wrote: "Wow! I can't believe I'm reading this. I'm really surprised that you've not been shown full support at Joppa. "It's just we've been needing on our end of the beach. "Actually a hot coffee! And great chats too" Another commented: "Oh, what! That's so sad! I hope you will come back soon!" A third said: "Oh no, as Morton Street resident, that's a great loss. Hope we see you back soon." A fourth added: "Really, really sorry to hear this, such delicious coffee and excellent conversation, just what the Joppa community needed." The City of Edinburgh Council has been contacted for comment.
