The bixie is the '90s-inspired haircut of the summer

What's a bixie, you may ask? Unofficially: One of the coolest haircuts of the summer. Officially: A hybrid between a bob and a pixie. In other words, the best of all worlds. Here, a look at what exactly makes a bixie a 'bixie'—and how to style it if you decide to make the chop yourself. Getty Breaking down the bixie cut The bixie has quickly become the most-requested haircut at salons. For good reason: 'It's a cut that combines the freshness and casualness of the pixie with the length of the bob, combining shorter layers at the nape of the neck and sideburns and leaving longer ones at the top and close to the face,' explains Spanish hairstylist and Redken ambassador Juandiegoteo. Think: A grown-out pixie or a choppy bob with face-framing bangs. Francesca Babbi With a vibe that calls to minds the It-girls of the 1990s like Winona Ryder, Cameron Diaz, Halle Berry, and Victoria Beckham, it allows multiple variations depending on hair texture, bone structure, and desired length. 'It can be adapted to all types of hair and face shapes: play with the bangs and leave them down, tousled, or wavy to achieve a classic or edgy style,' recommends stylist Mar Peón of Menta Beauty Place in Madrid. Who can wear a bixie cut? While the bixie can be adapted for anyone, 'it's a cut that especially favours oval faces as it highlights the cheekbones,' says Juandiegoteo. He also considers it 'ideal for fine hair because it adds a lot of volume. And, it also works well with wavy and curly hair for a more casual style,' he explains. Felicitas Ordás of Felicitas Hair says it's also a great cut for anyone who wants to highlight their jawline, shoulders, and neck. 'With this cut, the nape of the neck and sides are lengthened.' Her advice: Comb it with the ends slightly outwards to give it a playful, gamine look.

Iris Law, Rihanna And Florence Pugh Say Skirt Sets Are Back – Here Are Six To Buy Now

What do Iris Law, Rihanna and Florence Pugh have in common with the late Queen Elizabeth II? On first glance maybe not a lot, but each has a penchant for a two piece skirt set. While the Queen wore hers in bright shades, and loaded with pearls and heritage brooches, there is a new spirit infusing them now to offer up a fresh appeal that It-girls can't resist. FIND OUT MORE AT ELLE COLLECTIVE Consider Iris Law strutting the Crosiette in Cannes this week. She wore a linen two-piece set from Mango, styled with a red halterneck top and sportif sunglasses. It's a world away from what you think of when you imagine how a skirt suit should and would be worn. Here, prim stuffiness was swapped out for a more relaxed approach that, thanks to the coordinating pieces, still remained polished. The way Law allowed the jacket to fall off her shoulders only adding to this laidback feel. Florence Pugh has recently sported a different approach. Her white skirt suit worn during the promo trail for Thunderbolts was an archive Mugler set that boasted the 80s power-shouldered silhouette that defined the decade. However, if any skirt set worn of late has gone viral then it can only be Rihanna's pre-Met Gala Miu Miu look. The musician, mogul, mother wore a matching skirt and top (and socks!) in dove grey. It was a spin on the classic matching top and bottom set. Taken from the brand's AW25 collection, it's the first time that we've seen the collection being worn out and about but it's far from the first skirt set from the brand to have turned heads. Especially since 2022, Miu Miu has been the finest purveyor of the all-new skirt suit look moving from beige coated cotton options through to sporting fabrics. Some come with full pleated skirts and others have straight knee-length skirts, but each always has a matching jacket. While Miu Miu has a hold over this new approach, there's another number of names who are understanding that you can't go wrong with the classic. And what is more of a classic than a Chanel two-piece? Sofia Coppola and Zoey Deutch have both recently called upon the easy polish of a Chanel twin set of late. Choosing a skirt set for yourself makes for a wise investment. They can be worn apart with equal success before being reunited in matchy-matchy harmony. The joy of a skirt suit is primarily in its ease and the fact they speak of a lot more thought than the reality of what pulling them on together requires. When it comes to a wardrobe MVP, you can't really ask for anything more. ELLE Collective is a new community of fashion, beauty and culture lovers. 18 best ballet flats that are stylish, comfortable and classic

While the ballet flat enjoyed huge favour in the Noughties (see the era's It-girls Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller), the shoe's pivot from ballet essential to fashion staple has its roots in the early 20th century, when designer Claire McCardell introduced them in her collections. Further popularising the style, Bridget Bardot and Audrey Hepburn wore ballet flats on the big screen during the Fifties and Sixties, while Jackie Kennedy and Princess Diana both regularly plumped for the dainty style. In the late 10s, however, ballet flats slowly fell from grace. However, the humble ballet flat is back. The revival began with Miu Miu's luxe satin pump, one of the most sought-after shoes in 2023, along with Ganni's cult buckle ballerinas, The Row's Ava flats and Dear Frances's divisive mesh design. With these luxury designers breathing fresh life into the classic shoe, this was no fleeting comeback. Alaïa's crystal-adorned ballet flat, Chanel's simple black option and The Row's quiet-luxury looks are proving that pumps are anything but boring. They're not only popular with fashion houses. Runway takes on the style have trickled down into the high street, so ballet flats are proving to be a must-have shoe in 2025. This season's hottest trends – leopard print, metallic and butter yellow – can all be seen in the latest designs. From New Look and Monsoon to M&S and Anthropology, more and more high-street brands are launching budget alternatives to designer ballet flats. How we tested To ease you into the warmer months, we've rounded up the best options from this year's spring and summer collections.
