Mahalakshmi's qualities
When we look for precedents for any spiritual or religious observation, we look into the Itihasas and Puranas. But above all stand the Vedas. The Vedas are the ultimate authority when it comes to seeking validation for any philosophical statement. Sri Guna Ratna Kosam of Parasara Bhattar gives us Goddess Mahalakshmi's qualities. The Vedas are the source of this work, because all Her auspicious qualities find a place in the Vedas, said T.A.K. Srinivasacharya in a discourse. So, Parasara Bhattar speaks with the authority of the Vedas when he elaborates on Her kalyana gunas. Parasara Bhattar is following the path shown by sages like Vyasa, when he praises Mahalakshmi's gem-like qualities. Those who have earned Her blessings are fortunate, and those who have not are fools who misinterpret the Vedas and do not grasp its import. To envision Her innumerable qualities, one needs the special collyrium of bhakti. Mahalakshmi is the Goddess of the universe. It is not just the Upanishads that declare the greatness of Mahalakshmi. The Itihasas too extol Her. Even if everything that is good and auspicious in this world is put together, it will not equal even a small fraction of Mahalakshmi's wonderful qualities. You find a fortunate man seated on an elephant, beneath a pearl-studded umbrella. At the same time, you also see a poor man, dressed in worn-out and torn clothes. The reason for the difference in status of the two men is that while the former received the glances of the Goddess, the latter did not. Prosperity comes to a man only with Her grace.

Solo polyamory: The modern woman's rebellion against traditional dating norms
When it comes to dating, women are increasingly getting the spotlight now, a focus on their needs and wants, a consideration they always deserved. Non-monogamous relationships have been the talk of the town lately. This finds roots in our historical texts, Itihasas and Puranas. For instance, in Mahabharata, Draupadi was married to all five Pandava brothers. While polyamory is still finding its feet in the turbulent terrains of India's traditional and society-bound structures of family and marriage, solo polyamory has reared its head like a rebellious outgrowth, hell bent on letting women carve out a space for their emotional and physical needs without compromising, without living on anyone else's terms. But what exactly is solo polyamory, and how does it fare against the traditional systems in place? learnt more from a counselling psychologist. 'Solo polyamory is when you are in a relationship with multiple partners but not committing to anyone or having a primary partner. It could be due to multiple reasons like not sharing finances, responsibilities etc,' Juhi Pandey, psychologist at MPower, Aditya Birla Education Trust, said. Not everyone is meant for monogamous relationships. (Source: Freepik) Why are people hopping on this relationship trend? According to Pandey, there's a mix of factors. 'It gives an easy way for people to romance or have physical needs fulfilled without making any commitments. It makes people not abide by the societal norm of being in monogamy,' she said. However, Pandey warned that this trend can be particularly taxing for people who prefer deep connections. 'If a person has multiple partners it is difficult to balance everyone's needs and wants. Multiple partners always carry a risk of having sexually transmitted diseases. It can also bring social stigma or challenge from family and friends in understanding this kind of lifestyle,' she said.
