‘Did Not Use Single Gaali In Season 2': Ali Fazal On Playing Guddu In Mirzapur

For Ali Fazal, it was a significant challenge, as his role required a transformation unlike anything he had done before. Ali Fazal has come a long way in his acting career. From theatre stages in Dehradun to Bollywood hits and international milestones, the actor's journey is a testament to versatility, talent, and grit. With every role, Fazal brings depth and presence to the characters as well as continues to push creative boundaries. During an interview with Bollywood Bubbles, the dynamic actor shared his experiences on shooting Mirzapur and opened up about his famous role, Guddu Bhaiya. Talking about his portrayal of Guddu Bhaiya in Mirzapur, Fazal revealed it was a significant challenge, as his role required a transformation unlike anything he had done before. 'It was very different from who I am, from what we've grown up seeing. So, I did some study and tried to understand the people and their environment," the actor revealed. The actor credited Mirzapur's writer and director, Puneet Krishna, with helping him prepare for the role. Fazal further revealed that he used to take notes on little linguistic nuances, as the region has its different way of speaking. When questioned about how difficult or easy it was for him to use abusive language, the actor clarified, 'To be honest, more than me, the other characters were the ones who were using gaalis. In fact, in season 2, I didn't use a single gaali because season 1 had enough of that." When he was asked if delivering such lines came naturally to him, Fazal replied, 'Nahi aajati hai. Abh, mahaul hi aisa hai…Itna Kehna Kaafi hai." Talking about his most memorable moment on set, Fazal revealed the very first day of the shooting would be his most cherished memory. Fazal explained they were shooting a classroom scene when he felt intense pressure and nervousness despite all the preparations, and to overcome this fear and appear more intimidating, the actor unconsciously changed his walk and posture. 'That posture, that vibe – it all came from that one moment," the actor recalled. Additionally, Fazal reflected on the global popularity of Guddu Bhaiya and said, 'It feels nice, I mean that you've reached people." The actor further showed gratitude to Indian audiences as well as fans at the global base for showing this much love and adoration for his character in Mirzapur. First Published:
