Future Fest celebrates Denver children, all their future possibilities

Future Fest is a free, citywide event for students and their families to connect passions to careers and empower youth. "It's really our commitment as a City to our youth, our up-and-coming future workforce to get them excited about careers in their own backyard and be able to have hands-on interactions and activities that they can really dive into," said Alyse West, Community Engagement Strategist with the City & County of Denver. Future Fest kicks off with a parade around Civic Center Park at 11 a.m. There are Performing Arts Showcases, a Step Show Competition, a Business Pitch Competition, and Flag Football Clinics. Youth on Record will be performing on the main stage in the evening. "We want to empower and inspire our youth while giving them the opportunity to just explore new opportunities, the City, and learn more about our agencies and what we do," said J.J. Williams, OHR Talent Acquisition Supervisor for the City & County of Denver. In addition to the activities, 85 organizations and City agencies will have booths at Future Fest. Some of the organizations that will be on display at Future Fest include Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, Cyber Qubits, and the Mobile Earth + Space Observatory. City agencies include Denver Parks and Recreation, Technology Services, and Denver Human Services. "I want to make sure that they feel seen and celebrated. There's lots of opportunities where they get to showcase their talents in different competitions and different performance opportunities," West added. Future Fest offers an opportunity for children to interact with the City's police officers, sheriff's deputies, firefighters, and 911 emergency communicators. Rhode Island FC prepares for match against Loudoun United FC

LEESBURG, Va. (WPRI) — Rhode Island FC is looking to keep their momentum going as they head to Virginia to play Loudoun United FC on Saturday. After a successful inaugural season that saw Rhode Island FC make it to the USL Championship Final, this season is full of optimism and promise. Starting the season 1-1, the defending USL Eastern Conference Champions say they can see a difference in how opposing teams are approaching them. 'We were hard to play against, but towards the end of the year, they saw a different side of us,' Forward J.J. Williams said. 'With us making the run that we did to get to the final, I know that everybody on this team is very hungry, but everybody else that's playing against us, we're getting the best version of them week in and week out.' 'To have a home is really nice, you know, and it's ours, and we can show up and it's the same every single day,' Head Coach Khano Smith said. 'We're very fortunate to be able to have this, I think a lot of teams in this league will chop your hand off to have what we have, so we're very fortunate.' 'Yeah, it's amazing. I think this goes to show the amount of support that we have here in the state and how much everybody supports us and just loves the team and the atmosphere,' Williams added. Saturday will mark the third all-time meeting between Loudoun and Rhode Island. Last season, they played to a pair of scoreless draws. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
