Gene Hackman and Wife's Deaths Ruled 'Suspicious' as Investigators Find No Signs of Gas Leak
The post Gene Hackman and Wife's Deaths Ruled 'Suspicious' as Investigators Find No Signs of Gas Leak appeared first on Consequence. Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, along with one of their dogs, were found dead Wednesday at their home in New Mexico. While there were no visible signs of foul play, investigators have now deemed their deaths 'suspicious' after finding 'no obvious signs of a gas leak' and the front door of their home 'unsecured and opened.' According to affidavit released by New Mexico authorities on Thursday, Hackman, 95, and Arakawa, 63, and their dog were found by two maintenance workers. Arakawa's body was found in the bathroom with a space heater near her head, possibly indicating that it 'could have fallen in the event the female abruptly fell to the ground.' Additionally, 'a prescription bottle appeared opened with pills scattered on the counter-top.' The deceased dog was located in the bathroom closet 10-15 feet from Arakawa's body. Arakawa's body 'showed obvious signs of death, body decomposition, bloating in her face and mumification in both hands and feet,' according to affidavit. Hackman body was found in the mud room and 'showed obvious signs of death, similar and consistent with the female decedent.' Investigators found no obvious signs of a gas leak, including carbon monoxide, and the couple's two other dogs were discovered alive and healthy—one inside the house and one outside. The maintenance workers who initially found the bodies said they hadn't seen the couple in two weeks. When they arrived to their home, they said they found the door 'ajar,' but investigators found no signs of a forced entry. Kennedy Center says J6 Prison Choir is not a 'confirmed event,' despite what Steve Bannon says
Longtime Trump ally Steve Bannon told a cheering CPAC crowd in Washington, D.C., this week that the J6 Prison Choir — composed of men jailed after the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 — would perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. "I talked to Ambassador Ric Grenell last night," Bannon said at the Conservative Political Action Conference, referring to the former ambassador to Germany whom President Trump appointed as the center's interim executive director. "And I think the J6 choir is gonna play the Kennedy Center for a night and honor their families." A representative for the Kennedy Center, however, told The Times on Friday: "We do not have any information on this as a Kennedy Center confirmed event." Speculation has swirled about the future of Kennedy Center programming now that Trump has wrested control of the national arts institution and dismissed board members appointed under former President Biden, as well as longtime board Chair David M. Rubenstein and longtime President Deborah F. Rutter. High-profile artists associated with the center or scheduled to perform there have stepped down or canceled appearances, including TV producer Shonda Rhimes, musician Ben Folds, opera singer Renée Fleming and actor Issa Rae. Online chatter about a J6 Prison Choir appearance at the center picked up steam after early media reports took Bannon's remarks seriously. The choir is best known for a recording that features the men singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" interspersed with clips of Trump reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. The song briefly took the No. 1 spot on Billboard's digital song sales chart after it was released in March 2023. A music video for the song — featuring clips of the Capitol riot as well as images of Trump hugging the American flag, pledging allegiance to the flag and holding rallies — premiered on the "Bannon's War Room" podcast. At CPAC, Bannon said the J6 choir should open the new incarnation of the Kennedy Center under Grenell and Trump. "And we invite all the families they tried to destroy, the J6ers, and they get to sit in boxes where the elites sit," Bannon said. "And we take the elites — for just one night — and we take them down to the D.C. gulag." Get notified when the biggest stories in Hollywood, culture and entertainment go live. Sign up for L.A. Kennedy Center's Upcoming Performance (According to Steve Bannon) Deemed a 'Downgrade'
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts' upcoming performance (at least, according to Donald Trump's former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon) following Trump's presidential takeover has shocked many in the theater community. According to Bannon, the J6 Prison Choir — which is indeed made up of previously imprisoned individuals involved in the Jan. 6 insurrection — will potentially be added to the lineup, as he announced at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). The news that "the J6ers," who were present at the event "from the medium-high security prisons to the U.S. penitentiaries," would possibly play the once-lauded venue in Washington, D.C., "for a night in honor of their families," was met with raucous applause from the audience. "Beautiful!" one attendee could be heard as Bannon paused to allow the news to sink in. He also shared his own idea for their potential performance, suggesting that they "invite all of the families they tried to destroy, the J6ers, and they get to sit in the boxes where the elites sit" while the "elites" are sent to the "D.C. gulag," shocking many internet users at home. Parade has reached out to the Kennedy Center for comment. "We're living in the upside down," one theater-lover mourned, referencing the horrifying alternate universe found in Netflix's Stranger Things. "So it begins," another lamented, bracing for whatever comes next, while another agreed, "Lord, what a downgrade." "I hear their rendition of 'Tomorrow Belongs to Me' is particularly chilling," someone else wrote, referencing the track from the musical Cabaret that is performed by young members of Hitler's regime. Another disappointed X (formerly Twitter) user called the move "DEI for terrorists," while someone else suggested calling the FBI "to report the second assassination of John F. Kennedy's memory." One even played on Trump's recent "honor" for "God Bless the U.S.A." songwriter Lee Greenwood, writing, "And I'm ashamed to be an American." "They can sing Amazing Disgrace," another quipped. CBS reported that Trump's intention was to put an end to the center's "woke culture" when he announced earlier this month that he'd be taking over the board. Shortly after the news, the Kennedy Center canceled the upcoming tour of the children's musical Finn, which "follows a young shark who realizes he may relate more to smaller, more gentler fishes," according to Playbill. The Kennedy Center claimed that the decision was financial in origin, but, per the publication, the musical could easily be seen as a metaphor for the LGBTQ+ experience, and the creators were "not surprised" by the move following "the events" that preceded the news. As a result, many previously scheduled performers have also pulled out of their events, including Issa Rae. "Unfortunately, due to what I believe to be an infringement on the values of an institution that has faithfully celebrated artists of all backgrounds through mediums, I've decided to cancel my appearance at this venue," she explained in a statement, promising all ticketholders a refund. J6 Prison Choir to Perform at Kennedy Center
The post J6 Prison Choir to Perform at Kennedy Center appeared first on Consequence. After installing himself as chairman of the Kennedy Center and firing several members of its board of trustees, Donald Trump has promised a new 'Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture.' We're now beginning to get a sense of what that vision looks like, and it will apparently involve members of the J6 Prison Choir. During an appearance at CPAC on Thursday, conservative activist and Trump ally Steve Bannon shared that the J6 Prison Choir, which is comprised of men previously imprisoned for their involvement in the January 6th United States Capitol attack, will soon perform at the Kennedy Center. Bannon said he was informed of their invitation by Ric Grenell, who was recently appointed by Trump as Kennedy Center's interim executive director. 'I talked to Ambassador Ric Grenell last night, and — the J6 choir is going to play the Kennedy Center for a night in honor of their families,' Bannon claimed, before suggesting they also use the evening as an opportunity to put the 'elites' in the 'D.C. gulag for one night.' Consequence has reached out out Grenell and Kennedy Center representatives for more information. In 2023, the J6 Prison Choir released their lone record song, 'Justice for All,' which consists of Trump reciting the Pledge of Allegiance interspersed with the choir singing 'The Star-Spangled Banner.' Proceeds from the song's sales went to family members of the individuals incarcerated for their involvement in the Capitol attack. At the beginning of his second term, Trump pardoned about 1,500 people convicted of offenses related January 6th. J6 Prison Choir to Perform at Kennedy Center Alex Young
