Jet2 has converted a number of summer seasonal routes into year-round flights too. The extended routes are from Bristol to Athens in Greece and Almeria, Bilbao and Murcia in Spain. Also continuing through winter will be flights from Edinburgh to Athens, and from London Luton to Bordeaux in France and Murcia. The flights are already on sale. Flight declares mid-air emergency after leaving major Scots airport

The pilot declared the emergency just 30 minutes into the journey A PASSENGER plane heading to Italy has been forced to divert after declaring a mid-air emergency after leaving a major Scottish airport. The Jet2 plane, travelling from Edinburgh to Rome this morning, issued a 700 squawk code, signalling an emergency onboard. Advertisement 4 The Jet2 plane declared a mid-air emergency Credit: JET2 4 It was forced to divert around half an hour into the journey Credit: FLIGHTRADAR24 The LS3915 flight took off at around 6.50am after it was initially due to leave the airport at 6.15am. And it was scheduled to land in the Italian capital city at around 10.20am. However, the pilot declared the emergency around half an hour into the journey. An emergency squawk is used to identify an aircraft that has a possible issue, which enables it to have priority over other air traffic. Advertisement The plane was then diverted to Birmingham Airport at around 7.30am. Images from FlightRadar24 show that it heads south towards Rome until it flies over Stoke-on-Trent. It then starts to veer off course out to the east. The plane starts to pass Birmingham Airport but circles back, looping around it in the sky. Advertisement It then landed safely at the airport at around 7.40pm. It is currently unclear what sparked the mid-air emergency. A gran who refused to pay for a still-frozen £9 tuna sandwich on a flight was stunned when crew called ARMED COPS on her It is also unclear when passengers will be able to resume their journeys. Jet2 and Birmingham Airport have been contacted for comment. Advertisement 4 It landed safely at Birmingham Airport Credit: Getty
