Ruki Shiroiwa Makes Voice Acting Debut in 'As One, Square Enix' Anime Prequel to Starwing Paradox
In a new special video released on Wednesday, the crew of ' As One , Square Enix,' and 'Sunrise' in a feature-length theatrical prequel anime film to Square Enix's Starwing Paradox game revealed that JO1 boy group member Ruki Shiroiwa has been cast as the main character, Yō. Shiroiwa is making his voice-acting debut. After listening to 'Himawari' (Sunflower), the song he wrote and composed himself and released as the fourth single from his self-produced project 'PlanJ,' the staff decided to cast him. Set twenty years before the game's plot, the movie will tell an entirely original tale. The main character of the movie is Yō, a high school student who is losing touch with his bandmates and whose parents disapprove of his aspirations to pursue a career in music. One day, he is surrounded by a bright light and hears a voice in his head pleading for assistance. In another scene, two nations that have been at war for a long time over energy sources start an uncomfortable truce in a world called Meguriboshi. As a massive piece of space debris approaches the planet, robot mechanic Rako loses consciousness and contacts Yō while unconscious. Further, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Evangelion, Nadia—The Secret of Blue Water, Summer Wars) returns from the game to design the characters for the film, which is directed by Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan films 15–21). Scriptwriters Shatner Nishida (Lupin III: Prison of the Past), Kana Matsui, and Masaya Honda (Boruto: Naruto Next Generations); mechanical designer Ippei Gyōbu (Gundam: Reconguista in G, Synduality), and more form the team of the movie. On August 22, the movie will be released in theaters.

KCON LA 2025 Lineup: SEVENTEEN HxW, P1Harmony, IVE, JO1 & izna So Far
KCON 2025 Los Angeles headliners HxW (SEVENTEEN), the SEVENTEEN sub-unit of HOSHI and WOOZI for the ... More duo's 1st single album 'BEAM' Los Angeles will soon pulsate with the energy of Korean-pop culture as KCON LA 2025 returns with a range of top-tier artists and experiences catering to different fan interests, all while expanding the definition of K-pop. Branded this year under the banner of the 'KLOVER'S Club Fair,' the three-day extravaganza held at the Arena and Los Angeles Convention Center promises a weekend of live performances, interactive fan moments and a celebration of how K-pop continues to evolve beyond borders. This year's KCON theme draws inspiration from the good-luck charm of a four-leaf clover with the KLOVER'S Club Fair splitting into four experience-focused 'leaves,' each representing a facet of the K-culture phenomenon that includes music but also TV, movies, beauty, food, literature and more. At the heart of the festival's big comeback announcement is its first wave of artists. With an eclectic mix of veteran idols (including Roy Kim and SEVENTEEN members Woozi and Hoshi), solo powerhouses (like viral chart-topper Lee Youngji), rising rookies (izna), and, notably, two acts rooted in Japan's J-pop scene in JO1 and IS:SUE. Most artists will grace the main Artist Stage and Meet & Greet zones with KCON announcing more face-to-face interactions for those on the grounds and ways for fans to engage online. Fans can look forward intimate Q&A sessions, photo ops, exclusive merch drops and more inside the LA Convention Center.. Elsewhere, the X Stage will spotlight emerging talent with KCON marking one of the few opportunities for rookie K-pop acts to meet overseas fans. The nights commence with the M COUNTDOWN stage delivering a special live taping of the popular K-pop program where superstars like IVE, P1Harmony, ZEROBASEONE, NMIXX, CRAVITY, and more will ignite the arena stage. In particular, the presence of JO1 and IS:SUE is more than boosting the amount of boy and girl groups, but a statement of K-pop's growing and increasingly global significance. In a joint venture between Korean and Japanese entertainment conglomerates CJ ENM and Yoshimoto Kogyo, respectively, their co-production TV competition Produce 101 Japan birthed both groups that are managed by their Lapone Entertainment label. These acts blend J-pop's exciting rawness with the polished performance standards of K-pop to forge a hybrid model that's resonating globally (see JO1's sold-out U.S. tour) and highlights how KCON is embracing and celebrating K-pop's inspiration across the pop ecosystem. This follows the KCON 2024 model seen when JO1 along with boy band INI and girl group ME:I (both created on Produce 101 Japan) joined, as did the female Filipino pop sensation BINI along with NSB, an Asian American influencer and boy group. As the KLOVER'S Club Fair unfurls August 1-3, it will showcase not only the highly anticipated performers but also the powerful networks of fan communities, content creators, and entrepreneurs that play such a huge role in sustaining K-culture's global surge. With a second-wave lineup coming soon alongside this next-level fan engagement and an open-armed embrace of pop forms, KCON LA 2025 is further developing the definition of what it means to be a 'K-pop fan and artist festival' in 2025. K-Pop Fan and Artist Festival KCON LA 2025, Aug. 1-3, 2025 at the Arena and LA Convention ... More Center According to a press release, details on ticket sales, programming and other activities will roll out gradually ahead of KCON LA 2025's dates on August 1-3.
