Craven County celebrates NC Legislators in Schools Week
NEW BERN, NC (WNCT) — As part of North Carolina Legislators in Schools Week, Senator Bob Brinson stopped by JT Barber Elementary School Friday morning, Apr. 11, 2025.
He toured the school and visited classrooms to get a first-hand look at the daily experiences of educators and students, listen to their concerns and hopefully, help bring about some positive changes.
He also met with the director of school nutrition to discuss budgets for in-school lunches.
'Of course, the federal budget has been in flux recently and so, I know there'll be some conversations about what our needs are to make sure that we can continue feeding children healthy lunches moving forward,' Acting Superintendent of Craven County Schools Michelle Lee said.
Friday also marked 'Purple Up Day'—a day to recognize and support military-connected students. Senator Brinson even joined students in the cafeteria for a 'Purple Up' lunch.
