Two held in Barak Valley for pro-Pak posts
Silchar: Two individuals from Assam's Barak Valley were arrested for allegedly sharing pro-Pakistan and anti-India content on social the first incident, Jabir Hussain, a resident of the Nilambazar area in Sribhumi district, was taken into custody by the Nilambazar police on Saturday. Authorities acted swiftly after receiving complaints about a Facebook post that allegedly promoted Pakistan, while denigrating India. Hussain was arrested from his residence, and his social media activity is currently under a separate case, Bilal Ahmed of Jalagram, Borkhola in Cachar district was arrested by the Bihara police team. According to officials, Ahmed allegedly posted content on social media praising the Pakistani army and raising slogans such as "Pakistan Zindabad". The arrest followed multiple complaints from local residents. MLA sent to 4-day custody, 7 held in Assam for pro-Pakistan posts
1 2 Guwahati: A Nagaon district local court on Friday remanded AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam to four days of police custody while Assam Police arrested seven more people across the state during their ongoing operation against the dissemination of anti-national content on social media platforms. Islam was arrested on Thursday on treason charges after claiming that the Pahalgam massacre was orchestrated by the centre. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informing about the Friday arrests wrote on X, "Assam will not tolerate any individual who, directly or indirectly, supports or defends Pakistan in connection with the heinous attack in Pahalgam." In a separate post on X, Sarma said: "A terrorist is a terrorist, no matter what he says, But when his faith becomes his gun and hate becomes his way, When he believes his religion tells him who to fight, He turns his cruelty into a cause and calls it faith and right." Among those arrested on Friday are Javed Mazumdar, an advocate from Silchar, A K Bahauddin, a student at Assam University in Silchar; Jabir Hussain, a local journalist in Jailakandi; and Anil Bania, the district secretary of Satra Mukti Sangram Parishad in Biswanath district. Others include Mahahar Mia alias Mujihirul Islam from Morigaon, Jarif Ali alias Sharif Sing from Barpeta, and Sahil Ali from Sivasagar. Jabir Hussain was taken to custody by Pachgram police for allegedly posting controversial content on social media, suggesting the Pahalgam terror attack was a conspiracy to divert attention from the ongoing Waqf Act issue. Similarly, Bahauddin was arrested by Silchar police for allegedly sharing inflammatory and communally provocative content online.
