'I think that's more on a human level' Texas A&M DH reflects on Missouri sweep
Texas A&M (27-23, 10-17 SEC) likely won't make the NCAA Tournament after the Missouri Tigers, who entered the weekend 0-24 in SEC play, swept the Aggies by a combined score of 23-8, as the Aggie offense produced just two hits in the final two games, and while all of us waited for the Aggies to improve after Game 1, the team continued to spiral downward.
Sunday's loss was not just embarrassing, but also served as the final home game of the season, while capping off the A&M careers in Blue Bell Park for several players, including Hayden Schott, who has served as the 12th Man representative throughout the year. Going into the week, there is plenty of blame to go around, but the players on the roster and the coaching staff deserve an equal amount of said blame after what we witnessed.
However, It's important to remember that these young men don't deserve personal attacks outside of fairly criticizing their play on the field, as Hayden Schott reminded everyone during the post-game presser that at the end of the day, it is important to also see this team as individuals once the jersey is off.
'I think that's more on a human level, to be honest with you, not a baseball level. The reason I say that is cause there's probably, me probably up there the most, that really just feel like we've failed a lot of people.
'I know for a fact that Jace (LaViolette) isn't mad that he didn't perform for the draft. He is mad because he knows how his capability and he knows that he wanted to play for this university and for Coach Earley and that's why he feels the way he does…'
'It's not cause he's worried about himself. So I think it's just, you got guys who love each other as people, and then the baseball side of it, it just sucks. Just sucks.'
Schott is right on point, noting the stark difference between fan expectations for the team's success, and the reality that, every player is going through their struggles, and no one, except for the other players in the locker room understands that through all the wins and losses, every man on the roster continued to fight despite the the recent outcomes.
