Storm Track 3 Forecast: Scattered storms today with severe risk returning

Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue to move across portions of central Kansas into this afternoon. This morning wave of storms will be followed by more scattered storms over western and northern Kansas tonight. Scattered severe storms will be possible with a primarily hail and wind threat. A Slight Risk is in effect for western and northern Kansas. There is also the chance of a tornado or two especially focused to the west. Storms march east tonight and we will likely wake up Thursday with a storm complex moving across the area. Another round of storms develops tomorrow evening. Severe weather will be possible again, especially over the southern and western halves of Kansas. A cold front sweeps the moisture farther south by Friday, but southern Kansas may still be in play for the chance of showers and storms. Saturday looks mostly dry, but moisture will surge back to the north on Sunday. Better chances of severe weather look likely by Monday. Storm Track 3 Forecast: Chilly and windy Saturday, snow chances this week

After a drizzly night, we are now behind a cold front. North winds take charge today, and the effects will be twofold. First, we will see skies gradually clear out as moisture gets swept to the south. Expecting to see more sunshine for the second half of the day. This comes at the cost of a chilly wind all day long. While not much of a change from yesterday's high temperature in Wichita, it will feel distinctly colder. Partly cloudy skies and lighter winds tonight. Overall, a calm night with lows in the 20s and teens. Clouds begin to build back in on Sunday but we will remain mostly dry. Temperatures tomorrow continue to get colder with highs in the 30s, but lighter winds will help balance it out. Two back to back storm systems have their sights set on Kansas this coming week. The first will arrive for the second half of Monday, with the follow up on Wednesday. The first storm Monday will have snow potential, perhaps a bit of wintry mix in southern Kansas before temperatures drop Monday night. It will have to fight drier air near the surface, though, so accumulations from round one will be light to moderate. Northern Kansas has the highest potential. The second storm looks more dynamic, with higher potential for snowfall across most of Kansas. Some accumulations Wednesday could be heavy.
