St. Albans shuts out Jackson-Reed to capture DCSAA baseball title
St. Albans pitcher Myles Upchurch knew that Sunday would probably be the last time he stepped into a batter's box, and the Alabama signee couldn't have asked for a better final swing. Minutes after getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth, Upchurch hit a two-run home run over the right field wall which, coupled with his complete game shutout, gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 win over Jackson-Reed in the D.C. State Athletic Association championship game at Nationals Youth Academy.

Jackson-Reed wins a dramatic, multi-day DCIAA softball championship
In recent years, Jackson-Reed's journey to a D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association softball title has been smooth sailing. The Tigers have worn the city crown for over a decade — Coach David Thompson's team entered this spring having won the conference for 11 straight seasons. But this year's title defense was anything but comfortable. It took 20 runs, two fields and several days, but the Tigers prevailed in a wild 20-19 win over School Without Walls to claim their 12th-consecutive city title. The game, which started Monday at Nationals Youth Academy, was postponed due to lightning with Jackson-Reed at the plate with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, the game knotted at 19 and the bases loaded.

A spring tradition: Jackson-Reed makes it 32 straight DCIAA baseball titles
The D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association baseball championship tends to follow a similar script each spring. Jackson-Reed's opponent shows up to the field — this year, the Nationals Youth Academy in Southeast Washington — hoping to undo more than three decades of precedent. But time and time again, often rather quickly, those hopes are put to bed, and again it's the Tigers who end the day with a trophy.
