It happened on John F. Kennedy Drive West in Lincoln Hills. While he is expected to be okay, the other two shootings were deadly, and happened in the same week. On the morning of May 15th, a man was found shot on Wheat Road. He later died from his injuries. And later that evening, a man was found shot dead behind the wheel on Herlong Road. Then on Memorial Day, there was the shooting at the Westwood apartment complex. 'Right around 3:30 this morning, patrol officers were dispatched out to this location at 1171 South Lane Avenue in reference to gunshots,' said Sgt. Ray Reeves with JSO's Homicide Unit. 'When they arrived on scene they did find an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds.' Shenea Howell has been living at the Westwood apartments complex for about a month. She says she didn't hear the gunshots, and didn't know anything had happened until she saw the police. 'I was just going out to get me some coffee and when I was going out, I just seen all the police. So I stopped the police to ask what happened,' said Howell. 'I was very surprised.' In addition to these shooting incidents, On May 14th, a man was shot and killed by JSO officers on Lenox Avenue after refusing to cooperate with officers and trying to enter another home. All of this made for a violent first half of the month on the westside. The JSO Homicide unit is working in conjunction with their Robbery and Violent Crimes unit on this active investigation into the South Lane Avenue shooting. New photos show partial collapse, damaged cars at Jacksonville airport parking garage

Two days after fire engulfed parts of a Jacksonville International Airport parking garage, new photos shared by the airport show damage to some of the dozens of cars ravaged by flames on Friday, May 16. The images released Sunday show several burned-out cars and debris in the part of the garage that partially collapsed during the mid-day fire that forced the closure of JIA for several hours and the indefinite closure of the airport's hourly parking garage to allow experts to assess the structural safety of the building. In a social media post on Sunday, May 18, the airport said that officials had "established a collapse zone" and that crews were "working to establish safe areas of the garage where cars may be removed" in the coming days. The hourly parking garage, which has a capacity of 1,015 vehicles, was nearly full when the fire is believed to have started in one vehicle on the second parking level, according to airport video, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department chief Keith Powers said. The parking structure remains closed in the aftermath of the fire, leaving hundreds of airport guests temporarily separated from their vehicles. More on the fire: Jacksonville airport parking garage fire cancels flights, closes parking facilities Two days after the fire that caused no serious injuries, the daily parking garage and daily surface parking were full, according to parking information on the airport's website. The outlying "economy lots" — which were at capacity during parts of the weekend — were listed as 88% full on Sunday evening. The airport encouraged travelers to find alternate parking or use taxis or ride-sharing services to get to and from the Northside airport. The hourly parking garage is a parking structure located directly across from the airport terminal, with an upper-level drop-off area for departing passengers and a lower-level pick-up area for arriving passengers separating the two buildings. The daily parking garage structure and daily surface lot parking extend out beyond the hourly parking garage, which is used most often for short stays at the airport to drop off or pick up family members or friends who are traveling to and from the airport. The ground floor of the facility also houses several rental car pick-up and drop-off facilities. What's next: Heading to JIA? Photos show burned-out cars at Jacksonville International Airport after fire

Photos shared by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department on Saturday, May 17, give a better look at the devasting fire that swept through a Jacksonville International Airport parking garage a day earlier. In the just-released images, several burned-out cars are shown on the third level of the hourly parking structure. According to estimates from city and airport officials, 50 vehicles were damaged in the mid-day May 16 blaze that forced the closure of JIA for several hours and the indefinite closure of the parking garage to allow experts to assess the structural safety of the building. More on the fire: Jacksonville airport parking garage fire cancels flights, closes parking facilities A day after the fire that caused no serious injuries, the daily parking garage and daily surface parking lot remained closed to incoming vehicles, limiting on-airport parking mostly to the outlying "economy lots," which were 95% full as of noon. Parking options limited after fire sweeps through airport parking garage It was too early to tell what ignited the blaze. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department chief Keith Powers said airport video indicated that the fire began in one vehicle on the second parking level and damaged an estimated 50 other cars, burning so intensely that the heat triggered a partial collapse of the garage's second and third floors. A secondary collapse followed about 30 minutes later, he said. This article originally appeared on Florida Times-Union: Jacksonville airport fire damages 50 cars. See the photos

50 Cars Destroyed by Massive Fire, Collapsed Parking Garage at Jacksonville Airport

The latest car news, reviews, and features. A single car fire erupted into a massive parking garage fire that led to a shutdown at a Florida airport on Friday. As smoke billowed across the city, flights were canceled, connections disrupted, and travelers flying in and out of Jacksonville International Airport were stranded as fire authorities fought the afternoon blaze. The midday fire occurred on the third level of the hourly parking garage. An estimated 50 vehicles were damaged, but there are currently no reports of injuries related to the blaze, said Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan during a press conference. She added that neither the hourly nor the daily parking garage would be accessible for the rest of the day to provide a clear path for responders. Because of the unsafe conditions, the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department utilized drones to determine whether anyone remained in the garage after firefighters completed an initial evacuation sweep. Fire Chief Keith Powers said clean-up and damage assessment would 'take time' due to the structural collapses that occurred on the third and second floors of the garage. If your car is in there, sorry, but the garage will be off limits until engineers give the OK. Fire Chief Powers confirmed that an airport video shows the fire started with one vehicle, but not much else. 'We don't know any details about that vehicle, what kind of vehicle it was,' he said. 'Whether it was an electric vehicle, a gas-powered vehicle, or what. We don't know that from the video. We can just see the vehicle that started it.' No cause was provided, either. Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department The active fire created chaos not just at the terminal but surrounding areas. WJXT reported that those driving to the airport had to deal with unexpected road closures and increased traffic. 'My Uber driver was very nice, but we couldn't make head of what was going on,' a woman told the news outlet. 'We just got directed to go in a circle.' For those waiting outside due to the airport shutdown, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office provided water while city buses were sent as temporary cooling stations. AccuWeather reported a high of 97 degrees Fahrenheit in Jacksonville that day. The airport resumed operations around 5 p.m. that day, but the affected and adjacent garage areas remain closed. According to Jacksonville Today , the hourly garage is next door to a new parking garage currently under construction. Mayor Deegan said construction would not be affected, 'but for the short term, we are down a few thousand parking spots.' Airport authorities are encouraging alternate commutes such as rideshare, carpooling, and at-terminal drop-off and pick-up due to the limited on-site parking. A temporary car rental return area was created, and a list of damaged vehicles is in the works, but that can take several days. Got a tip?
