Ormond Beach Police officer quits amid alleged excessive force investigation

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Ormond Beach Police Department released a statement following an investigation into an officer'sinappropriate use of force while arresting a suspect.
The backstory
The incident occurred on Dec. 6, 2024, when former Patrol Officer Jacob Cannon allegedly used excessive force during a DUI investigation.
What we know
After an immediate review, Cannon was placed on administrative leave, and both a criminal investigation and an internal affairs investigation were initiated.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) led the criminal investigation, which resulted in a felony battery charge against Cannon.
Before turning himself in to the Volusia County Branch Jail, Cannon resigned from the department. He had been with the Ormond Beach Police Department since February 2023.
"This incident does not represent the way we police our community," the department stated. "The men and women who do professional and compassionate work on a daily basis serving our citizens have no tolerance for this type of behavior. I have no tolerance for this type of behavior."
The department also issued a public apology to the victim, emphasizing that the former officer is being held accountable for his actions.
