‘Canada's Got Talent,' filmed in Niagara Falls, won't be back next year
Is it lights out for 'Canada's Got Talent' in Niagara Falls? Citytv released its 2025/26 programming slate Tuesday and the reality competition series that has filmed at Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort since 2021 is not among the returning shows. 'We've decided to pause production of ('Canada's Got Talent') and the show will go on hiatus for next season,' said a spokesperson for Citytv when contacted Tuesday. The announcement comes just three weeks after the show aired its two-hour season 4 finale at Fallsview's OLG Stage, awarding Newfoundland singer Jacob Lewis $1 million. 'Canada's Got Talent' first aired in 2012 with judges Martin Short, opera singer Measha Brueggergosman and Niagara Falls-born singer Stephan Moccio. After the first season, it did not return until 2022. The new version of the show, filmed at Fallsview Casino's 1,500-seat Avalon Theatre, featured judges Howie Mandel, WWE icon Trish Stratus, YouTuber Lilly Singh and rapper Kardinal Offishall. It became Citytv's highest-rated new series in a decade. Filming shifted to the 5,000-seat OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino the next season, where it would remain. Episodes for each season would be filmed in late October at the venue, to air the following spring. Last year, the show took a dramatic leap by increasing the top prize to $1 million from $150,000, funded by Rogers. The current season saw the departure of judges Stratus and Singh and the addition of country music icon Shania Twain and comedian Katherine Ryan. Citytv would not elaborate on ratings for the final season or why the show is going on hiatus. Mandel, however, already has another Citytv show lined up. He will be the host of 'The Price is Right Tonight,' a new prime-time Canadian version of the iconic U.S. game show. Production starts in December in Toronto with 12 one-hour episodes airing next spring.

Canada's Got Talent winner Jacob Lewis welcomed home as local celebrity
From the big stage back to Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula, Canada's Got Talent winner Jacob Lewis was welcomed home on the long weekend to celebrate his newfound fame and fortune. Lewis, an offshore oil and gas worker from Butlerville, a neighbourhood within Bay Roberts, took home a million dollars after singing his way to the top of a nationally televised talent show. Lewis was emotional as he thanked everyone in his hometown for their support. "When I auditioned for Canada's Got Talent, I was dreaming big," he told the crowd. "You guys have helped make this a reality." "If you're a kid, if you're an adult, if you're anyone and you have a dream or something, I'm living proof that just a regular Joe and this can become possible for you guys," he said. Balloons and billboard-like signs hung on many homes, as a long motorcade led by the Bay Roberts fire department, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and its search and rescue unit, escorted Lewis into the town with sirens blaring. People and cars lined the one-way road going through Butlerville. The owner of the community's only take-out restaurant, Mountain View Grocery, shut off the deep fryers to watch Lewis drive by. As residents waved, they talked among themselves about how Lewis must feel tired despite the excitement. His entrance to the town's field was met with cheering, and people saying "God love him." In a field where the celebrations continued, dozens of people lined up to get autographs and pictures with Lewis. Hannah Stone, who met Lewis before he won the show and took a photo with him, brought the picture for him to autograph. "I've already met him at McHappy Day, and he's a really nice person," Stone said. Paige Peddle knows Lewis' sons and spoke highly of the family. "I think it's really great that he won, his kids are so nice, and he's just a really good person," Peddle said. Lewis' cousin, Ella Franie, watched the Canada's Got Talent finale live in Niagara Falls and recalls the moment she saw his win. "I got so excited I started screaming," Franie said. Lewis says he will have more to share on his next steps soon.

Butlerville's Jacob Lewis wins top prize on Canada's Got Talent
Newfoundland and Labrador's newest star is taking home a million dollars after singing his way to the top of a nationally televised talent show. Jacob Lewis, an offshore oil and gas worker from Butlerville, N.L. entered Canada's Got Talent with dreams of being a singer. Now he's leaving the show as a champion. Lewis was crowned the winner Tuesday night during a live finale episode filmed in Niagara Falls, Ont. Viewers voted for their favourite talent online, and Lewis says he broke record numbers. "Newfoundland and Labrador was so strong behind me," he told CBC Radio's On the Go on Wednesday. Lewis was up against seven other contestants. Lewis wowed judge and superstar musician Shania Twain after performing a rendition of Bon Jovi's Bed of Roses in an audition. She gave Lewis a "golden buzzer," meaning he secured a place in later rounds of the show, immune to any prior elimination. The win is something he said he's envisioned for a long time, and now it's a fond memory. The talent show champion said his family will use the money to help look after their two sons, who have some health challenges. Lewis said he sees this moment as an opportunity to leap into the music industry.
