Nashville SC to host U.S. Open Cup round of 32 match at Geodis Park on May 6
Nashville SC will host a U.S. Open Cup round of 32 match at Geodis Park at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6. Nashville will learn its opponent on April 17 when the draw for the round of 32 takes place. The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest national soccer competition in the United States, beginning in 1914. It's a single-elimination knockout tournament that includes teams from Major League Soccer, the USL Championship and semi-professional and amateur leagues. MLS teams participated in the Open Cup from the league's inception in 1996 through 2024, when MLS announced it would not compete in the tournament due to schedule congestion. MLS and the Open Cup eventually reached a solution that allowed for eight MLS teams and nine MLS Next Pro reserve teams to take part. Nashville SC didn't send its first team or reserve team, as it was already competing in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. This season's Open Cup consists of 96 teams and began on March 18. Including Nashville, 16 MLS teams are set to compete in the tournament, all entering the competition in the round of 32. Nashville reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 U.S. Open Cup, losing to Orlando City on penalties, and the round of 16 in 2023, losing to Inter Miami. As a United Soccer League side, NSC reached the round of 16 in 2018 and the third round in 2019. The Open Cup did not take place in 2020 or 2021 due to COVID-19. Tickets for the round of 32 match at Geodis Park go on sale Tuesday. Fans can buy tickets through Ticketmaster on Nashville SC's official website. Current season-ticket holders also can access U.S. Open Cup games played at Geodis through the quarterfinals. The U.S. Open Cup match will be Nashville's first midweek game of 2025 and could lead to a packed month of May. Nashville is at Atlanta United on May 3 and hosts Charlotte FC on May 10. That game is part of a four-match homestand, with the New York Red Bulls on May 14 and D.C. United on May 17. If Nashville wins its round of 32 game, it would play in the round of 16 on either May 20-21. MORE: Nashville SC falls to FC Cincinnati 2-1 after late penalty; winning streak ends at 3 games Nashville has three more games in May — at Toronto FC (May 24), at the Columbus Crew (May 28) and at home against New York City FC (May 31) — meaning it could play nine games in just 29 days after previously having at least five days before every game. Nashville (3-2-1, 10 points) is off to one of its strongest-ever starts in MLS and is tied for its most points through six games since 2021.
