Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra holds an immense importance in Hinduism.
This day is celebrated with great pomp and show and millions of devotees across the world come to Puri, Odisha to participate in this amazing festival. Thousands of devotees pull the idols of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra through the streets of Puri in a grand procession known as the Rath Yatra, which is celebrated every year during the Hindu month of Ashadha.
Jagannatha Puri, since Shri Hari's heart beats inside the idol of Lord Jagannatha, it is believed to be the location, where people can sense the presence of Lord Krishna.

Jagannath Puri 2025: Traditions
Building of Chariots
Three massive chariots are built annually for the gods (Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balbhadra, and Devi Subhadra). The building's dimensions and materials are tailored to the requirements of the ancient world.
Pahandi
On the day of the yatra, the gods are removed from the temple in a grand parade called Pahandi, which is accompanied by chanting, dancing, and singing.

Chariot Pulling
Devotees recite hymns and sing bhajans as they pull the chariots through the streets of Puri. It is considered a very lucky deed.
Stay at the Gundicha Temple
The deities stay in the Gundicha Temple for nine days, during which time various rituals and festivities are performed.
Return Journey (Bahuda Yatra)
In an equally lavish procession, the gods return to the Jagannatha Temple.
