Arun Kataria reigns supreme as Rajasthan players dominate second Jaipur Open Classical Fide Rated Chess tournament

Jaipur: Arun Kataria reigned supreme as Rajasthan players dominated the second edition of the five-day Jaipur Open Classical Fide Rated Chess tournament which concluded here on Sunday. The national-level tourney was organised at the Jaipur Club under the aegis of Waves and Jaipur Health and Wellness. The aim of this meet was to promote mental health among all age groups and ancient sports like chess in Rajasthan. Arun Kataria (2353) of Udaipur remained undefeated in the competition and emerged as the champion and received Rs 1,00,000 as well as trophy. There was a fierce fight among many players for second place till the last moment and at the end three players were tied up with 7.5 points each. As per the rules of the competition, a tie-breaker round was played in which Rahul Sangma (2121) won and clinched the second position with a cash prize of Rs 75,000, while the third spot went to Shrayan Majumdar (2110) from Maharashtra, who got a prize money of Rs 50,000. In the women's category, Vedika Pal from Jaipur won the title of best female competitor by scoring six points, while in senior player category, GB Joshi from Delhi won the prize of Rs. 8,000 with 6.5 points. A blitz championship was also held during the main competition which was claimed by Gopal Rathore and he won the first prize of Rs. 25,000. The prize distribution ceremony was attended by chief guest National Health Mission additional director T Shubhmangala. Jaipur Club president Manoj Birla, Narayana Hospital marketing head Vikas Sharma, Jaipur Club sports secretary Saket Mathur, Ashok Bhargava, Ravi Bajaj, Sanjay Sharma, organizer and JHW founder Himmat Singh, co-founders Bhupendra Singh and RK Vyas, Waves founders Jayendra Chaturvedi and Amrish Joshi were the guests of the honour on the occasion.

Jaipur: Top seed Arun Kataria of Rajasthan and Maharashtra's Shrayan Majumdar maintained their joint lead after Round 7 of the Second Jaipur Open Fide Rated Chess tournament being played at the Jaipur Club on Saturday. The five-day national-level tourney is being organised jointly by Waves and Jaipur Health Welfare. Both Arun and Shrayan continued their unbeaten run to take their points tally to 6.5 points at the end of the penultimate day's play. In the thrilling matches played on Saturday, Kataria outwitted Nimay Aggarwal of Haryana, while third seed Shrayan proved his superiority by defeating YP Srivastava of Bihar. In other matches, Manav Kumar of Rajasthan continued his explosive streak for the third time in a row when he held second seeded International Master Rahul Sangma of Railways to a draw and gave a blow to Rahul's winning campaign. Jaipur: The second edition of the five-day Jaipur Open Classical Fide Rated Chess tournament 2025 kick-started at the Jaipur Club here on Wednesday. Himmat Singh, founder and CEO of JHW (Jaipur Health and Wellness), informed that in the first round of the competition, jointly organised by Waves and JHW, Shraddha Dhar of Assam held to a draw by Makavana Virendra Singh of Gujarat; Vivan Kapoor of Jaipur had to split point with AK Kalsian of Delhi. YK Srivastava of Uttar Pradesh and Aarav Gupta of Jaipur played out a draw. Ishaan Satwat of Bihar defeated PR Harsh of Jaipur, Arisha Agarwal of Jaipur outwitted Jalap Indraj of Rajasthan, while un-rated Atiq Kumawat of Jaipur got the better of Mukesh Mandloi of Kota. Organising secretary, Jayendra Chaturvedi informed that the tournament was inaugurated by Balwinder Singh Walia, facility director, Narayana Hospital; Rahul Pachori, regional head, Care Health Insurance; Co-founder JHW, Bhupendra Singh and RK Vyas; Ravi Bajaj of Royal Jaipur Chess Club; Zonal Head, CAT from Madhya Pradesh, Bhupendra Jain; Founder, Food for Needy, Udit Chaturvedi; President, Jaipur Club, Manoj Birla; Honorary Secretary, Vishal Kaushal; Treasurer, Pawan Parashar; Swarn Singh Khanuja; Dr Bharat Grover; Sanjay Madan; Member Executive Committee, Amrish Joshi and Jyoti Chaturvedi from Waves, secretary Ashok Bhargav and Parvendra Mani Verma from New Delhi. In this edition, around 500 players from 20 states in the age group of 4 to 84 years are participating including more than 250 international rated players.
