Notre Dame lacrosse starts its title defense in impressive fashion

Notre Dame lacrosse starts its title defense in impressive fashion While Notre Dame lacrosse didn't have as good of a regular season as it had in the past few seasons, that didn't matter on Sunday as they routed host Ohio State 15-6 in the first-round of the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes entered the game as the No. 2 team in the country, as the Irish's experience won the day with All-American Chris Kavanagh and Jake Taylor each having three goals in the dominant victory. Will Lynch was fantastic in his faceoffs, winning 17-of-23, giving Notre Dame the extra possessions it needed to pull off the upset. Goalie Thomas Ricciardelli had a great game as well, stopping 15-of-21 attempts on goal. Early it looked like the Irish were in trouble, as Ohio State scored three of the first four goals, to hold a 3-1 lead in the second quarter. Notre Dame didn't get down, and went on a 6-0 run to take the lead going into the half and never looked back. It was the ninth-straight NCAA Tournament victory for the Irish, as they will look to make it 10-straight next Sunday against Penn State in Annapolis, Maryland.
