Pittsburgh Steelers' Rookie QB Will Howard Earns Comparisons to Super Bowl Champion Jalen Hurts
Pittsburgh Steelers' Rookie QB Will Howard Earns Comparisons to Super Bowl Champion Jalen Hurts originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers don't have a final answer on who's playing quarterback next season, but if it comes down to rookie Will Howard, some feel like the team is in great hands. Advertisement The Steelers are still playing the long waiting game with free agent veteran Aaron Rodgers, who has yet to sign a contract to wear the black and gold in 2025. There's a chance that he won't. Which means the team would have to find an answer elsewhere - perhaps a trade for Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins - or rely on Howard. Bleacher Report's James Palmer thinks that Howard's upside is so high, he compared him to a Super Bowl-winning quarterback in the state of Pennsylvania. "Will Howard has some traits that some people really, really liked in this draft," Palmer said. "Big, strong, athletic guy. There was one comment that I thought was interesting. Somebody compared him, when I was talking in the draft process, to Jalen Hurts. Just kind of in terms of the physicality and the size he can run with. I think Hurts is a better athlete out in space, but I just thought that was interesting that somebody brought that up." Advertisement The Steelers picked up Howard in the sixth round of this year's NFL Draft with the No. 185 overall pick. If he can turn into anything close to Hurts, a second-round pick in 2020, then Pittsburgh will have found a gem in the late rounds. He could also make Steelers fans forget that they ever thought about signing Rodgers. Is Eagles Supporting Cast Ranking Damning for Super Bowl MVP?
Is Eagles Supporting Cast Ranking Damning for Super Bowl MVP? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Is Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts being disrespected around the league again? Even after winning a Super Bowl MVP trophy just last February? Advertisement It depends how you look at it. No quarterback has won more games in a four-year stretch than Hurts. He is the first signal-caller in team history to reach the Super Bowl twice, and has one of the best touchdown-to-interception ratios as well. Some analysts believe that Hurts has something few quarterbacks in this league have. FOX Sports NFL reporter David Helman believes that the Eagles have the best supporting cast in the league. That's valid. Does it lessen Hurts' impact or what he should be credited for? "The top spot might be the easiest to figure out in this entire exercise," Helman said. "The Eagles return 10 of 11 starters from the unit that cruised to a Super Bowl have the best running back in football, an elite receiver duo, a quality tight end and the top offensive line in the game. Advertisement "Maybe there's some small cause for concern with the loss of playcaller Kellen Moore to the Saints — first-time OC Kevin Patullo has been on staff since 2021 — but there's too much talent here to lose sleep over it." All of that makes sense. But as some analysts struggle to judge Hurts as a quarterback - his numbers don't always pop like signal-callers such as Josh Allen or Dak Prescott or Lamar Jackson - all Hurts does is win. And so Philly's 'supporting cast' on offense is top-notch … but so is the QB star being 'supported.' Perhaps that is what they should be judged on … how they mesh. How they win. Advertisement And few quarterbacks in history have won at the pace that Hurts has set since he became a starter. Related: 'Kelce Genes Are Strong!' Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Hurts Given Top-5 Ranking in NFL
Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Hurts Given Top-5 Ranking in NFL originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After winning Super Bowl LIX MVP for the Philadelphia Eagles, it seems to finally be happening for Jalen Hurts. Advertisement Since becoming the team's starting quarterback in 2021, Hurts has won with the Eagles at a clip that no other quarterback has done before in franchise history. He was the first signal-caller in Eagles lore to lead the team to a Super Bowl appearance twice. National pundits are beginning to respect the work of the star now. Pro Football Focus' John Kosko came out with his latest top-10 quarterback rankings with Hurts coming in at fifth on the list. He was behind Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson, but ahead of quarterbacks like Justin Herbert, Jayden Daniels, and Dak Prescott. Hurts' numbers certainly don't look like an elite quarterback … at least in the minds of some. He threw for under 3,000 yards and under 20 touchdown throws last season. Despite that, he made key plays in playoff moments to help Philadelphia win. Advertisement His 45 wins since being a starter are the second best in the league outside of Patrick Mahomes. That is who Hurts is. He isn't going to be a player who dominates the stat sheet. He will be a player, though, that doesn't make mistakes and helps the team continue to find wins on the schedule. It should be worth noting that of the top-five quarterbacks on the list, Hurts' record as a starter against them is 4-1 in the regular season. All Hurts does is win. And that is what makes him so special to begin with. Related: 'Kelce Genes Are Strong!' Sports Illustrated's Super Bowl prediction won't play well with Eagles fans
Sports Illustrated's Super Bowl prediction won't play well with Eagles fans Sports Illustrated's 100 Bold Predictions has Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills defeating Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 60 Nothing moves our meters like stats, numbers, and a constant thirst for prognostication. Most have already predicted the Philadelphia Eagles' record for the coming season. Others have tossed Madden ratings around in their heads. Others have already constructed their Fantasy football draft board while predicting the following three Super Bowl winners. It wouldn't be an NFL offseason without bold predictions, and one of sports' most trusted platforms delivered with more than enough of them. The Super Bowl... Eh... While the expected matchup is very possible, Birds fans are going to hate how this story ends. SI predicts an Eagles loss to the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl 60. To a die-hard fan, there's nothing worse than seeing another who is believed to be riding a bandwagon. That's much of the reason why Eagles fans despise Dallas Cowboys fans so much. They seem to disappear when things don't go well. Though no support system is more loyal than that belonging to the Birds, there are a handful that a Philadelphia sports fan sees as loyal and respectable. One is a 'mafia' from upstate New York. Buffalo Bills fans have been through a lot, and if there's one fan base that the Eagles contingent wouldn't mind seeing win its first Lombardi Trophy, it's that of the Bills. Now, all of this goes out the window if Philadelphia is Buffalo's opponent. That seemingly goes without saying. Sports Illustrated sees that as the expected matchup on football's biggest stage. Connor Orr provides the details. "Predicting the Eagles will return to the big game is a begrudging move on my part, but it's a recognition that nearly all of the NFC front-runners have brutal schedules. Philadelphia is the one team that can handle the rigors of such a slate and win ugly consistently enough to make the dance." He continued by stating the following. "Meanwhile, the Bills have an amenable schedule that includes the Browns, Falcons, Panthers, and Saints, as well as multiple cracks at the bottom rung of the AFC East. This slate will keep Josh Allen healthy and in berserker mode for the playoffs when Buffalo needs him most. " A paragraph later, he goes on to state that Josh Allen wins Super Bowl MVP... Yeah... Again, we can see the matchup. It's one of three that ESPN predicted (Philadelphia represents the NFC in all three), but we disagree with the result of the SI take. SI's 100 bold predictions for the season pick up steam. It also forecasts Philadelphia's 'tush push' montage being one of the most-watched videos ever and Jason Kelce teaming up with Brandon Graham to rejoin the organization in professional roles. Now that we can deal with it. Think about it. That may mean free beers on game day for everybody!
