City of Stafford Honoring the Legacy of Freedom Through Third Annual Juneteenth Celebration

STAFFORD, Texas, June 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The City of Stafford invites the public to attend its third annual Juneteenth Festival on Sunday, June 15, from 1–6 p.m. CT, inside the Stafford Centre Ballroom (10505 Cash Road). This free community event taking place on Father's Day promises a vibrant celebration of family, freedom and unity, featuring a combination of Stafford-based and Black-owned businesses, educational opportunities, food, bounce house, and live entertainment, with Houston's own Klockwork Band headlining the musical performances. Juneteenth, now a federal holiday, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. The festival in Stafford not only marks this historic moment, but also uplifts local culture and acknowledges the contributions of Black residents to the city's rich history. This will be showcased in the presentations by Buffalo Soldiers from the Living History Foundation, Texas Black Cowboys and Intuitive African Dance & Drum Culture. "Our Juneteenth festival has become a meaningful tradition in Stafford," said Mayor Ken Mathew. "It's more than a celebration, it's a reflection of our commitment to unity, equality, and honoring the contributions of Black Americans to our city and our nation. We're proud to welcome everyone to join us in this powerful moment of remembrance and festivity." The 2025 festival will feature a special tribute to Stafford native and Houston Texans safety, Jalen Pitre, honoring his outstanding achievements both on and off the field. Pitre, a 2024 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Nominee, will be recognized for the impact his nonprofit, the Pitre Boyz Foundation, has had empowering the youth of Stafford. The Foundation inspires resilience, promotes wellness, and cultivates leadership, helping young people reach their full potential. Councilman Will K. Bostic, a lifelong Stafford resident and key organizer of the event, reflected on the significance of the celebration's location: "To stand on the grounds of a former sugar plantation and host a festival that celebrates Black freedom and excellence is profoundly powerful. Our Juneteenth Festival honors the past, empowers the present, and inspires the future." The City is expecting its largest turnout yet, with more than 1,000 attendees anticipated. This free family-friendly event is open to all ages. Guests are encouraged to RSVP to help organizers prepare, as complimentary food will be provided for attendees. Texans make DB Jalen Pitre highest-paid nickel on new three-year extension

Texans make DB Jalen Pitre highest-paid nickel on new three-year extension Jalen Pitre isn't leaving Houston anytime soon. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Texans and the do-it-all defensive back have agreed to terms on a three-year extension worth up to $39 million. With a guarantee of $29.16 million, Pitre, who last season was the team's nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, is now the NFL's highest-paid nickel defender. The Texans continue to back their homegrown talent entering contract seasons. Last year, they agreed to terms with Pro Bowl wide receiver Nico Collins on a three-year deal worth $72.5 million following his breakout season with C.J. Stroud en route to a division title and playoff appearance. Earlier this offseason, Houston inked All-Pro Derek Stingley Jr. to a three-year, $90 million extension, making him the league's highest-paid cornerback while keeping him in DeMeco Ryans' defense through 2029. And if that's not enough proof, after proving to be a Pro Bowl-caliber defensive end still, the Texans also agreed to a one-year extension with Danielle Hunter, making him the second-highest defensive player in annual salary for 2026 behind only Myles Garrett. Now Pitre, who finished with 65 tackles and an interception in 12 games before suffering a season-ending chest injury, is under contract through 2028. He'll serve as the leading tackler for a top 10 unit, which should only improve under second-year players like Kamari Lassiter and Calen Bullock, along with the addition of safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. The Texans should add to the roster with several more names in two weeks when on the clock in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Tracking Texans' top 30 visits ahead of 2025 NFL draft

Tracking Texans' top 30 visits ahead of 2025 NFL draft Like most teams, the Houston Texans can host up to 30 prospects for official pre-draft visits before the 2025 NFL draft that aren't in the Greater Houston area. These are called "top 30" visits or "30 visits." The team can use the visits to take a closer look at a top prospect, build out the scouting report on a lesser-known player, or help recruiting efforts on a potential undrafted free agent. More and more, the Texans are drafting or eventually signing players who visited Houston before the draft or met with the team during the NFL Scouting Combine. In 2021, the Texans drafted five of the 30 players who visited. A year later, Houston drafted four more, including future All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. at No. 3 and nickel defender Jalen Pitre. In 2023, the Texans used both first-round picks on C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr., who visited the franchise on the same weekend with two weeks remaining before on the clock. In 2024, Houston drafted four pre-draft visitors and signed another as an undrafted free agent. Here's a tracker of the Texans' reported pre-draft visits in 2025: Washington State WR Kyle Williams South Carolina DL T.J. Sanders Texas WR Matthew Golden Note: Because Golden grew up in the Greater Houston area, his visit does not count against the Texans' top 30 prospects. Oregon OT Josh Conerly Jr. Texas WR Isaiah Bond Miami TE Elijah Arroyo William & Mary OT Charles Grant Texas DL Alfred Collins Ohio State RB Quinshon Judkins Alabama OL Tyler Booker Texas RB Jaydon Blue
