Man charged after drunk driving crash injures 2 deputies

ELKINS, (WBOY) — A man has been charged after a vehicle accident injured two Randolph County deputies earlier this month. According to a criminal complaint, on Jan. 19 at 4:10 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the area of U.S. Route 219 and Adolph Road for a two-vehicle accident involving a Randolph County Sheriff's Office cruiser and a pickup truck. When troopers with the West Virginia State Police arrived on the scene, they were told that the driver of the pickup truck appeared intoxicated. The driver, identified as James B. Scott, appeared to have 'blood shot and watery eyes' according to the complaint. Troopers administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, during which Scott showed signs of impairment and told the officer he had consumed around six Michelob Ultras. Man accused of stabbing victim with steak knife outside Buckhannon bar Troopers were granted a search warrant on Jan. 22 for Scott's medical records relating to the vehicle accident, which showed Scott had a blood alcohol count of .188 at the time of the collision. One of the injured deputies also allowed troopers to view his medical records, which showed that he had sustained a broken leg. Scott has been charged with DUI causing serious bodily injury.
