Man accused of opening fire on thieves stealing his Lamborghini in Vaughan
As car thieves tried to steal a Lamborghini from the driveway of a Vaughan home, a resident allegedly came outside and fired shots at them. York Regional Police say officers responded to a 911 call for a 'theft of vehicle in progress ' at a home at Pine Heights Dr. and Pine Valley Dr., just south of Teston Rd., shortly after 4 a.m. 'While our call taker was on the phone with our complainant, there were sounds of gunshots in the background,' Const. James Dickson said Thursday. When officers arrived they arrested four suspects – three adults and a youth – who allegedly showed up to the home in a car they had stolen, Dickson said. Moses Newton Larmond, 20, of Brampton, Troy Boca Peart, 20, of Toronto, Nana-Yaw Kwarten, 22, of Mississauga, and a 16-year-old Pickering boy are each charged with attempted break-and-enter, attempted theft of a motor vehicle, wearing a disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Kwarten is additionally charged with breach of probation. One suspect remains outstanding. The resident, a 35-year-old man, is charged with discharge of a firearm, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless storage of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon. 'Once again, we're seeing cases where individuals released on bail are involved in serious crimes within our communities,' Police Chief Jim MacSween said in a statement released Thursday. 'To ensure public safety and protect our officers, we need a bail system that effectively addresses repeat violent offenders while maintaining public confidence.' Man, woman charged after recovery of $1M in property allegedly obtained fraudulently Video released as cops warn thefts from vehicles on rise in York Region Pair wanted for vehicle theft, fraud in Etobicoke York Regional Police said in a statement they understand the 'fear and frustration' such an incident can cause , but they cautioned that 'discharging a firearm in a residential area is extremely dangerous.' 'You risk hurting innocent people, including neighbours, your own family, or responding officers,' police said. 'Taking justice into your own hands is not the answer.' Parked in the driveway beside the white-two door Lamborghini coupe on Thursday was a black four-door high-end Land Rover SUV. Images provided by neighbour showed a tow truck had hooked up a black four-door Honda with its rear window shot out and police seals on its doors being taken away as evidence. Judian Holness, who lives on the street, said this isn't the first time police have been to the home and wondered why the owner would leave the Lamborghini out in plain view. 'The fact that it happened again, we just have to take better precautions, ' said Holness. 'Just as a neighbourhood, where you are putting your stuff, what you are showcasing out there.' Another neighbour, Kamiya, said she is worried for the safety of her family – her daughters under the age of five, husband and an extended family who lives with them. 'Sometimes I am alone in the house alone,' said Kamiya. 'I am scared sometimes. So many times the police have come (here). It is not the first time.' Around 4 a.m., she was awoken to banging but just thought it was her own curtains banging in an upstairs room in the house because it was warm out and they left the windows open. They have lived at their house since September 2021 and know that the people living at the home where the interaction occurred are the second set of renters who have lived there since they moved in. Asked whether they knew the people there, she said they have no clue who even lives there and they rarely ever see them. jboland@

Shooting near Jewish community centre in Vaughan, Ont. targeted but not a hate crime, police say
A shooting near the Jewish Community Centre (JCC) in Vaughan, Ontario on Wednesday morning is not being ruled a hate crime, York Regional Police said during a midday press conference. 'There's no indication at all that this is a hate bias incident,' media relations officer James Dickson said in response to a question from National Post. Dickson told reporters at the scene that officers responded to reports of a shooting at 10:25 a.m. and confirmed that a 33-year-old man had been shot. The individual was taken to hospital with 'serious but non-life threatening injuries' from a gunshot wound, he said. 'We do believe that the shooting was targeted,' Dickson added, while refusing to provide 'any additional information in terms of identifying any of our victims.' York Regional Police are currently looking for one 'white male' suspect 'operating an older-model, dark-coloured sedan.' Dickson asked people in the community with any information about the incident to contact local law enforcement but said they 'don't believe that there's any public safety (concerns) at this time.' 'None of the criteria that would be there for the Hate Crime Investigation Bureau to be brought into consultation have been met,' the spokesman said. 'We do believe this to be a targeted incident. We do know that there's been a lot of incidents this year right across Vaughan that have brought hate bias to the front of people's minds and I can confirm that this is not related to that whatsoever nor the (Jewish Community) Centre.' Media Relations Officer PC James Dickson will provide an update from the scene at 1 p.m. The neighbourhood was quiet on the sunny afternoon. A few local students walked by, and captured images of the police tape blocking off streets. Local residents expressed alarm at the sight of their neighbourhood being filled with police cruisers. 'I figured it's probably another kid just setting up a firework,' one eyewitness, who asked not to be identified, told the Post. 'I don't know what this government is doing,' he said, adding that the community is home to the elderly and kids and the threat of violence is disconcerting. He told the Post that he heard lockdown announcements broadcast from the Jewish schools located nearby. 'I'm just so concerned because I come home late from work. If this is happening in broad daylight,' he said, without finishing the sentence. Our website is the place for the latest breaking news, exclusive scoops, longreads and provocative commentary. 'Three suspects entered the jewelry store, sprayed the employees with an aerosol irritant and smashed open jewelry display cases,' Const. James Dickson of York Regional Police tell us in a news release. This was planned out. Three masked villains and a getaway driver waiting outside. 'On Monday, June 9, 2025, at approximately 6:45 p.m., police responded to a commercial robbery in the area of Yonge Street and Carrville Road,' York Regional Police said. 'Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are seeking suspects and witnesses following a jewelry store robbery in the City of Richmond Hill.' York Regional Police logo Photo by YRP / X If the location seems familiar, you are right. This is where Hillcrest Mall sits and where there have been jewelry heists before. Usually, they are smash-and grab-operations — masked thugs with hammers who come in and break display cases and run off undetected. But then some of the operators started to stand up for themselves and fought back. They are the last line of defence to their business and their expensive merchandise and security — and police often take time to respond. Jewelry Store Robbery in Richmond Hill - Monday, June 9, 2025, at 6:45 p.m. - In the area of Yonge Street and Carrville Road, Richmond Hill- 3 suspects entered the jewelry store- Sprayed an aerosol irritant and smashed open display cases - Fled to an awaiting white sedan… — York Regional Police (@YRP) June 10, 2025 Now, it seems, the criminal world has adjusted — making things far more dangerous than what it already was. Retailers are on their own out there and the bad guys know it. While our political leaders and the justice system don't take any of this seriously, the people who are victimized are these small businesspeople and the public who are being terrorized by the violent criminals. Nothing short of 10 years in prison for armed robbery will suffice in making a preventative dent in encouraging such criminals to not take the chance. Right now, they laugh. That said, perhaps you know who they are, or have information, and can help YRP who are working hard to catch these robbers. 'The three suspects who entered the store are described as Black males. They were seen wearing masks,' York police said. 'There is no suspect description for the suspect waiting in the white sedan.' This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Police added 'investigators are asking anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area, anyone who may have dashcam or video surveillance footage at the time of the incident, or who may have information about the suspects, to please come forward' and contact 'York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6630, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. Anonymous tips can also be sent online at Yes, they will only get bail. And yes, they won't likely do any real time for these alleged terrifying acts. But police are doing their part and the public should chip in by doing its part as well. Just think of the poor jewelry store employees who have to work and live in that hell.
