Michigan State loses defensive end James Schott to transfer portal The transfer portal is running rampart throughout college football, with players from all over the nation deciding to enter into the NCAA transfer portal. The Spartans have been affected once again. James Schott, a defensive end prospect from Greenwood, Indiana, has made the decision to leave the Spartans program after three seasons. A 6-foot-4, 245 pound edge, Schott was in line to potentially see more playing time in the 2025 campaign. During his time in East Lansing, Schott appeared in 19 games and recorded 5 tackles. Schott was a member of the 2022 recruiting class when the Spartans flipped his commitment from Miami (OH). EAST LANSING — Another scholarship Michigan State football player announced Wednesday he is entering the transfer portal. Defensive end James Schott is the latest to explore leaving second-year coach Jonathan Smith's program, an MSU spokesman confirmed. Wide receivers Austin Clay and Jaylan Brown entered the portal Tuesday. The 2022 Mel Tucker recruit predominantly played on special teams. The spring transfer portal window closes Friday.
